    (1) Looking for a decent power supply for the Pi 2 Mercury streamer, if you've got some extras lying around I'd love to help you liquidate one! Budget preferable sub $200 or so

    (2) I have an OG HE-6 that has some big fat resistors that are really ruining my enjoyment of them and am trying to see if I can get rid of them.

I would really like to pay someone to go through this testing process:

    1) listen to headphones how they are now, then remove the resistors and see how things change/ if any driver imbalances appear

    2) if everything is fine at that point then great, if there is some sort of problem that appears, then measure the impedance of the resistors, and maybe get a replacement pair of resistors that are the same rating?

    3) shrink wrap the resistors so it looks much nicer, and no more chances of flaking crap, then reinstall them so things go back to the way they were before.

If you guys think this is a simple process I would consider trying it myself as well I am just unsure of how risky a noob doing it would be

Can you be a bit more specific about the HE-6 resistors? Are you talking about the wires going from the connector to the driver?

Those wires can be swapped, I have done it on a set of HE-5s but I am not sure I Would want to do it to a set of HE6s that are working fine. Its not a hard task to complete, but if you iron is too hot, or you are not careful you could end up ruining to solder pad.

I suppose the move would be to just hardwire a cable of your choice direct to the driver and remove the connector if that is what you are referring to when you say resistors.

The HE5 I did had bad connectors, So I removed them and had a bit of a struggle getting one of the contacts to attached via solder.

Are you measuring some imbalance already?

    Best,

Whoops my mistake..I put the wrong link in the post. That's my fully functional HE6 that I posted for comparison in the HE6 thread, here is the link to the pictures of the one with the big fat resistors https://imgur.com/a/ANplpsw.

Basically, they heat up a bunch when I use them, and they are flaking off bits of metal that get attracted to the magnets, and it is just a disturbing sight for me.

I would love to get rid of the flakes stuck to the inside of the magnets as well but that seems extra challenging and risky, so I would be more than happy just getting rid of the resistors if possible, or replacing them with equivalent, but nicer newer resistors and having them installed with shrinkwrap so there is no chance of ever getting the flaking.

There is currently no imbalance, the problem is how hot they get when in use, it just seems very sketchy, and the whole thing is just generally concerning and making me not want to use them,

    Thanks

Ok, thanks for the updated pictures. Makes more sense. It honestly sounds like an easy little project. If no one else wants to take up the torch I’ll give it a go, with the understanding that i make no promises or warranties. :)

Yes I completely agree, and have had them in storage for several years because of this. The guy I bought them off of told me he blew out His He6 drivers so many times that Hifiman got tired of him and installed the resistors so he couldnt blow them up again...I tried contacting Hifiman about helping me get rid of the resistors but they insisted it does not affect the function of the headphones and recommended I keep it that way, so here I am trying to find alternative solutions.

I posted about it here in the HE6 thread https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?posts/398298/
