The Yulong DA8 was hot garbage inappropriately hyped at HF. Anyone had a chance with the DA9?

I had a couple weeks to demo the Yulong DA9. I hated the DA8 but really enjoyed the DA9 in the short time I had with it. Soundstage was plenty big. Isolation is great. And I like the different filters for different music. The volume 0 to 99 and I dig that you can get the perfect volume. I also thought it paired very well with any amp I tried with the DA9. I would highly recommend this unit if you are in the market. Check out the Yulong website. Its a pretty cool boutique audio company. Their listening and testing rooms are really cool. Massdrop also will take it back for a year for a full refund if you do have a problem or for some reason don't care for it.

I really like this unit. So much I decided to buy one in this drop. Need two more to jump on this drop. Everyone that purchased it last time also had good things to say. I also like the connectivity which allows me to use the other DACs and amps with it. Its also fully balanced.

Im also a big fan of the Gustard H10 and X12 but not the A20H. I was pleasantly surprised by the DA9. Hopes this helps.

    Oh.... And I hooked the DA9 up to the Cavalli Liquid Carbon with RCAs and Balanced cables and it was incredible. So gooey and amazing. Thats when I made up my mind to buy the Yulong DA9 next time it dropped. The DAC pairs well with everything;

At this price, I'd rather get multibit jot or something. Definitely not Yulong or Gustard. Imo, chifi brands are starting to get real expensive nowadays. Not enough incentive to purchase them.

I think side by side you might be shocked. Not really in the same league. Not to say the jot doesn’t have its place in the market. Just a different price point for several reasons.

What about Lyr 3 with multibit card? Or even the cheapy AKM4490 card?

The last A## series Yulong AIO I heard was just plain nasty sounding.

You haven't posted an introduction yet and all your posts have been in this thread asking people to help you unlock lower price on the Yulong. So, sorry but not a lot of credibility on this, particularly given many members' prior experience with the prior iteration from Yulong. As a Liquid Carbon owner I cannot imagine any pairing with it being described as "incredible" ever.

Edit: if you genuinely enjoy this unit then awesome, not trying to rain on your parade. But the heavy selling from an unknown new member just isn't going to go over too well here.

This isn’t the DA8. AK4497 chip. I like what hear in this DAC. Not sure this is helpful but this comes off the Yulong site. They have pictures of the inside.

    Yulong site says:

We did not slow down research when the products are successful in the market. Countless tweaks and tricks were experimented during years of R&D surrounding AKM DAC solutions. These small pieces led to more creative ideas to be experimented, and this journey brings you the revolutionary DA9.
It is worth mentioning that DSD128 and PCM384K are supported through ALL digital inputs of DA9. The state of the art AK4497 DAC chip supplemented by full balance line preamp and Class A, JFET input balanced headphone amplifier makes DA9 your perfect choice for the core of your playback chain.
The de-jittered and precision clocked digital signal is then fed into AK4497 with ultra low noise (1.7nV) ADM7150 regulator for its analogue power supply and V_ref.
Ultra low distortion OPAMP OPA1611 and OPA1612 are used in the LPF stage, and followed by a high current low distortion OPA1622 output buffer. The preamp and headphone level is controlled by PGA2311.

Sorry to not have enough credibility to let people know something is on sale at the moment. You aren’t raining on my parade and I certainly didn’t mean to rain on yours. Just seeing if anyone happened to be interested in what I find a good deal. The gentleman asked and I tried to give him the info he asked for. Just trying to help. And if I’m in on the drop myself I must have some reason to spend my money. But thanks for your two cents. Have a glass of vino for me.

Not a reviewer and I wouldn’t dare make anyone sit through my hobbiests in-depth description of sound. I don’t claim to be an expert. Just a guy who likes music. Didn’t mean any insult or to bother anyone on this forum. I lurk.

What can a certain type of DAC chip prove? Implementation matters. You can hear all kinds of nasty implementation of ESS Sabre chips, even with the original engineers who put out the sorry ass Invicta. There are nicer application of Sabre chips on the other hand, like DP-X1A or Geek Out V2.

You can detail how the DA9 sounds and make comparisons with some gear popular on this forum. I wouldn't immediately write the DA9 off despite hearing the nasty DA8 a few years ago.

I am 99.8% sure that LostDog54 had no idea who he tried to "help". Couldn't help laughing. Do research while you lurk.

I really enjoyed the implementation of this new chip. The DA8 wasn’t for me. It made me skeptical on the DA9. After hearing it my opinion changed.
