    Summary: It's trippy.

The Verite Closed takes the interpretive approach of the Verite Open to the next level. It out Verite's the Verite Closed. The big cups give us a hint about its sound. Since many of us are already familiar with the Verite Open (which isn't all that different), I'm going to skip around with the measurements and start with the interesting stuff.

One of the more immediately noticeable things about Verite C is its reverb effect. The Verite Open had a bit of this, but Verite C with its larger and closed cups creates a more evident and larger music hall type effect.

I tweaked my CSD app to get longer duration times for the overhead plots used to examine reverb or internal cup effects. Originally the max was about 5-6ms by design since it never seemed longer was necessary. With the Closed, the situation became entirely different. I wanted to visualize the difference between Open and Closed in an objective way.

This reverb effect of these headphones can be seen around the 500-1kHz area.

The Open's reverb effect dies out quicker and is spaced much closer together, with four ripples or fingers from 2ms to 5.5ms. The Verite Closed's reverb effect takes its time. The ripples are longer in duration (fatter fingers) and more widely spaced, with the first major one at 4.5ms and the next one past 7ms.

The reverb effect is definitely audible. What I said: it's kind of trippy. You are either going to love it or hate it. With most recordings, I was able to adjust. The most interesting recordings are those that already tend to have a wall-of-sound or reverb effects, e.g. some Sarah MacLachlan, Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face (with those 80 synth chords, pulsating bass eighth-notes). It might be too much. For what it's worth, the Verite Closed could pull off each strike of those bass notes clearly, something most other dynamic headphones cannot do well - this despite the reverb effect.

I'd say extremely well-matched drivers, given the variability of fluffy earpads and placement issues (human-introduced errors). Heck, that probably means the earpads are consistent too.

Here is the Verite Open FR for comparison.

I mentioned in the subjective impressions thread that Verite Closed struck me as tonally sounding very much like the Verite Open; and that if I had to split hairs, the Closed was more sedate, had smoother highs, and more sub-bass.

Looking for interpretive comments on what I am hearing on the Verite Closed. Using EQ to fill in that 3k "BBC dip" helps, but anything more than 3 db or so a real grain/sibilance/break-up starts to become audible. Due to that (D2 dominated) distortion spike right there I am assuming? Also, does anyone believe that the D3 spike right at 200 lends a bit of timbre "thickness" (the "inorganic" kind) to vocals?
