Practical point: don't do anything like putting it on the rear shelf. Loose items in cars become missiles in accidents or even an emergency stop.

Let me guess...Someone saying all DAC's sound the same because "bits are bits"?

As (ex-)audiophiles go, I count myself as fairly objective, and yes, I absolutely believe that, unless something changes them, bits are bits. But, right from the off, it seemed absurd to claim that this makes all dacs sound the same. Let's take the blindingly-bloody-obvious: the second letter, dAc. Didn't those idiots ever notice that they have analogue circuitry and output? That's only what the things are *for!*

Going to repeat 2 things I've said here before:
      1. I suspect there's "other" information in a reconstructed signal that plots like THD+N, FR or CSD plots, or other commonly used plots don't fully capture or illustrate. Different DACs most likely, whether intentionally or inadvertently, handle this "other" differently.

... Aaaaaand it's this "x factor" plankton sort of thing that makes it easy for others who have less context for things to look at discussions about the same from a distance and think it's bunk and hogwash. Gotta hear it first to believe it, and not everyone's got that opportunity.

I can see WHY pseudo-objectivism is as appealing a school of thought as it is. It's exasperating, but it's no surprise it's caught on.

      2. There's also the question of how each individual hears and processes sound information (ie psychoacoustics). Not just the individual FR of our ears, or musical theory stuff like perfect pitch or rhythm, but also some audiophile things like sibilance, staging, timbre, etc.

Combined with 1, I can believe that some people will hear differences and others won't. And it can change each time.

Not GS2 (thought about that a bit), but at the price, it was a wash (I could do the chassis upgrade for same delta cash). So starting “cheaper” to get addicted to her.

Ah right well if one has it and the other doesn’t, i doubt the difference in load on the transformer is big enough to cause this(LIM being a bit more efficient iirc). Again probably contact schiit. Maybe there is other stuff going on that’s affecting your impression of the A2?

Speaking from experience: do not throw yourself into work, do not power through it. I stubbornly thought I could fix myself and it threw me into such a gradual downward spiral that I did not recognize the depression that was so cleverly hidden that I fooled even myself. Lost nearly ten years of my life after the split which was longer than the time we were together.

Only have my limited perspective to go off, but I imagine the plethora of manufacturers is at least in part borne of folks ripping designs off and not wanting to be too obvious about it. IEMs are also effectively jewellery for a lotta folk, ergo the multi-kilobuck stuff. Think Vertu smartphones and how idiotic that whole business model is.

@Sqveak dual-entry not necessary because the connector is 4-pole at both earpieces, so a balanced cable can be used to either.

New drivers will be interesting. Lower impedance than the current ones, but not stupid low. Higher quoted sensitivity than the current ones too.
