And when I say one of the best masterings I've ever heard, I mean on any format. It shows the full capabilities of the redbook standard and puts most rock/pop releases to shame.
Looking on discogs, that catalog number appears to be a 1988 reprint of the original 1986 CD, catalog number MCAD-1613, but the masterings are identical.
The mastering is exceptional. Beyond that, I'd never heard this album before and I'm loving it. I don't consider myself an Elton John superfan -- I know his hits but don't even own any of his music. This album is so good.
If you have any other recommendations for CD masters that are this good, Elton John or no, I'd be interested in hearing them.
I'll have to go through my collection and see what else is worth recommending. That mastering really is exceptional in every way, it's hard to match. Also the songwriting and performances are so top notch. It's always been my favorite Elton John album.
