The whipping crack of the neck is really quite dangerous. Can lead to torn arteries and other internal injuries. It has also been shown to be damaging long-term to the neck. I do enjoy a good back popping though.
I was mostly looking for a chiropractor who might be able to defend their profession as Ive spent most of my life under the impression they are witch doctors, but my ex has been trying to get me to see one since i messed up my back
@SoupRKnowva How did you mess up your back? There are certainly plenty of people who swear by them but there's not much real science to back it up. A physical therapist would be a better solution IMO because if it's a muscle strain (as most back pain is) then he/she will help you strengthen your back to prevent future issues
Sometimes physical therapists will choose to do physical manipulations as well but with safer movements. They tend to have more of a holistic and long-term approach.
Yup, your best bet is to find a proper physiotherapist, really. And fwiw, my back pain went away after working more on my core and back strength. Was rather counterintuitive at first though...
There's lots of stuff that isn't chyropractors. The first time my neck locked up I went to the doc. After a week of some sort of muscle relaxant pills, I was better. No problem with that, it worked!
But the next time, I went to a friend trained in massage, and got better in an hour.
Had excruciating sciatica to the point of foot drop, chiro wanted to "increase treatments". Thank god I went to a REAL medical pro, or I'd be crippled. I know they help some, but for me:f**k chiros.
Yep, DigMe is right. Physiotherapists can use some of the same techniques but in a careful, scientifically-backed manner. I also greatly benefitted from a few adjustments from a chiropractor as a youngin (uneven hips) and they helped my brother avoid a developing hunch and tight shoulders. But I'm going to go to a legit dude next time I need work on range of motion or similar.
Even here in India where a lot of stuff just happens uncontrolled, and a number of "traditional" medical systems are formally approved of, physiotherapists have to study and work for quite a long time to get qualified.
