OFFICIAL: Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX

I always found the HD600 to be a bit harsh and fatiguing even when upgraded from HD598 which sounds unbearable to me now lol. There's some peak in the treble that irritates me for some reason even though the overall tonality is neutral and warm due to mid bass. It's like a very tight peak EQ boost somewhere in the high frequencies. After a few days it disappears though and is less annoying and things get quite eargasmic.

 

I know we already have tons of pics here... but...

I was so upset with my pics that I wanted to take some more with better lighting to see if I could pick up what they really looked like. I am no photographer but would like to learn.

My honest preference of color is the dark metallic gray but this is growing on me a lot. Right now on my desk without bright light they look black like previously posted. My modded pair sound so different though that I swore these had a different tuning. Stock the bass is really wack to my ears now.

Also warning the pics there are HUGE and raw with no editing but if you click on them you can see the exact color of the phones.

 

Dropping on Election Day? It's obviously a Republican plot to depress turnout.

HD6xx is good but what we really need are Massdrop Sennheiser replacement pads for 30$. Paying 1/4 the price of a pair headphones for replacement pads is crazy!

If you're in Europe/Germany, you might as well just get a refurbished 650 for EUR 289 and free shipping straight from http://de-de.sennheiser.com/outlet. Massdrop ould probably boil down to the same price if you include shipping and VAT/customs.

 

Remember Massdrop used to be as taboo as Changstar/SBAF, till they paid Jude's "tribute"...

 

So...this is crazy...but has anyone else wondered whether Amazon will be getting their own black edition for Black Friday, like last year's HD598?

Not gonna wait for it. Don't want it to happen... But I'm surprised Massdrop wouldn't go with all-black, if they could... And I think Amazon has the leverage to make it happen if they wanted it instead.

 

I would also suggest not putting SBAF or SBAF links in PMs either. Their private messages are anything but private...

 

I've thrown around SBAF in several PMs on HF with no apparent "intervention" by the powers that be. Knock on wood.

I got flagged immediately, when someone asked what audio sites I visit and I mentioned sbaf. Comment was edited and I got a pm with an explanation that ended with "I hope you understand, whether you agree or not"

 

I promise you, you are now on their "radar". No intervention doesn't mean there hasn't been observation...

 

There will likely be some dropoff of actuals, but you'd think they'd ramp up to 10k units - that would still be pretty safe IMO. Why not sell more?

Also, it's a lot easier to click a button that means nothing than it is to spend the $200. I don't doubt they'll reach 5,000 but I don't think it's going to happen in one day. I could be surprised though.

 

Very radical, especially when you consider that $200 can be spent rather quickly shipping your TOTL to and from the manufacturer for service. (My apologies to posters here who know this all too well)

I love how Sennheiser has Braille 3 dots for L on the left driver.

 

I'm pretty tempted, 10,000 requested, 5,000 available, these will sell out fast.

I'm not disappointed at all, I was expecting hd650's for $200.
They got it $0.01 cheaper.
