I've always thought all of the good things about the Porta Pros should be followed with "... for disposable cans." I think the ksc75s are worse though.
It retails for about 30-50 Dollars/Euros, sounds good with most music (including Symphonic Metal!) and you actually get a decent pouch. On a good amplifier, it scales up a bit. Woolly bass is to be expected. The old PX100 was similar. If you simply want to enjoy the music, a Porta-Pro is good.
I’ll try turning them around tonight. Want to like them, as I like the old school look, particularly with orange pads. But the bass sucks at the moment.
Psalmanazar is right. Very few headphones convey bass right and when they do they turn you into a bass-head because real bass is really good. If you want real bass listen to a church organ in an actual church or a good cello player in a small venue. Even better, a jazz/fusion drummer in a small ensemble on a small stage with good acoustics. Otherwise go HD650 and tubes...
I bought the Drop version on sale because I don't have time right now to fix my old PX100-IIi. The Sennheiser is better, but the Koss works fine for youtube and phone calls. KSC75 sounds too Grado.
If we don't, I don't doubt we'll be getting one in a few hours or so. Best of luck! FWIW I did like the PortaPotties when I borrowed my boss's old set, but I wasn't quite as persnickety about bass as I am now. Would be interesting to revisit eventually, but I see where you're coming from RE: sound quality.
