For CDs, it seems almost like they are dead set against improving on or even equaling the best RCA masterings from the 80s. 'The Man Who Sold the World' is the only one that is even competitive, from the recent campaign. (I'm judging from the first 2 boxes, haven't heard the 3rd yet.)
TMWSTW is well done, and I would say Pin-Ups actually tops the RCA. The 2010 STS analogue master also tops the RCA. Every other remaster that has had good tonality has had tape or editing issues that make it less than perfect. So annoying.
I forgot about Pin-Ups. The LP is actually an improvement (not as bright) over the original US LP. I still prefer the WG RCA CD but that is debatable. I prefer the WG RCA STS to the 2010. I prefer the 2010 to the Japan for US RCA STS (which really sucks). Yes, the Ziggy LP is superb! (To bad about the CD mastering.)
