so bad

 

I don't know about you guys but this is a masterpiece to me.

 

He's a very good actor in general, very underestimated. Hopefully this will change as he deserves to be in the spotlight.

 

Please remind me, what was it? Guardians of the Galaxy #2 promo?

 

I watched it anyway. It was so bad.

 

Going to break forum etiquette and post again about Lady Bird. It may have gotten buried in the "what is art?" discussion the first time around.

Anyone else see it? It and Get Out should have both been ahead of Shape of Water for best picture this year.

 

Yes it was! So, so glorious. I will totally pay to watch a whole movie with this editing and aesthetics... Or I could just go and watch Kung Fury again for the fifth time, be right back.

I haven't seen Lady Bird nor Shape of Water yet but would love to hear your impressions on Get Out. Just curious why you think it's better than Shape of Water is all. FWIW I think Get Out is a great movie.

Has anyone here seen Ready Player One yet? I thought it was pure fun, one of the best from Spielberg. Not sure how well it stacks up to the book though.

Shape of Water is worth the watch, but your time would be better spent re-watching Pan's Labyrinth instead.

As for Get Out, it is so intelligently done. There is very real and serious social commentary, but it's offset perfectly by the humor. He walks a tightrope in that film and does so beautifully.

It's also a really great movie to look at. Cinematography is top notch.

 

For the first time in ages, I pulled a movie off the shelf to re-watch. This is getting harder to do with young kids.

Take Shelter was my choice. This movie is highly recommend as long as you're okay with slow burning indie flicks. The intensity is constant from beginning to end.

I would give anything to have been on set when they filmed the scene at the Lions Club dinner.

This is more of a horror film for me than any slasher flick could ever be. The terror and anxiety at the thought of letting your family down is played out here in agonizing detail.

I recently said that Michael Shannon was at the top of his game in Shape of Water. I was wrong.

 

Michael Shannon is one of those actors who rarely if ever puts in a bad performance. Dude just effortlessly fits into any villain / antihero role. Just the type of vibe he exudes.

 

Agreed, it's better. But one thing we have to give to G. Del Toro, his movies are unique and not comparable with anything else. He is somehow able to show dark things even darker, gloomy even gloomier and fairy... you get the point.

 

When this hits the cinema, I am going.

 

This was better executed in my opinion. Now let us dream of riding a T-Rex because Sci-Fi.

 

I just spent $6 to rent Coco from Amazon and definitely got my money's worth. They lay on the sentiment a little thick at the end but still very well put together and worth watching.

 

Ok guys I saw A Quiet Place.. thumbs up and a good movie with great suspense for sure. BUT...

I don't want to spoil anything but as an audiophile the end of the movie is LOL. damn too bad we don't have a spoiler tag here I can't elaborate further

so the end of the movie... The monsters are defeated when the dad tries to fix the daughters hearing aid/cochlear implant by soldering some opamps into it.. which amplify high frequencies and hurt the monsters giant ears.. then they amplify it further by holding it to a microphone connected to a radio and speakers. As if a cheap mic has the frequency response for that

The high frequency thing doesn't make a lot of sense to me. For echolocation to work well enough to the point of replacing vision, the aliens would need to have extremely good high frequency hearing like bats, which basically means treble wouldn't really hurt but rather aid them. Considering these aliens can crawl about in pretty narrow spaces without slamming into stuff, they have to be emitting sounds that are higher than the human hearing spectrum. About the mic thing though. even though cheap ass mics don't really have flat extension to 20khz, they will still respond to whats basically a sine wave at very high frequency. Nevertheless, in the context of a horror movie, this is good enough

 

The amount of garbage netflix is releasing is concerning to me. They were on a good path and then somewhere along the way they seem to have decided content quantity is more important than content quality. All the shit is diluting any good stuff they have on there and Im beginning to become very concerned about the Scorsese , "getting the band back together for one last gangster pic", movie.
