Of course. My first headamps were CMOYs, CHA44, META (basically Tangentsoft DIY stuff) variants running +/-18V. They sounded pretty good. I chucked them after I got the Melos SHA-1, and then the BA.

For a thread about the best stuff for 2015, there is an awful lot of talk about the O2...

The Master 7's biggest weakness was its VIA USB. With the VIA, the Master 7 sound quality was about on par with a Schiit Gungnir Delta-Sigma. I am curious and would expect the Amanero USB to produce significantly better sound quality. Not not as good as what I found to be the best (the Master 7 with the OR5 USB converter using i2s with DACLadder's modified HDMI input), but much better than stock.

I loved the Master 7 (only with OR5, not built-in USB which sucked) when I had it, fully realizing that it was a side-grade to the PWD2. For references, the Yggdrasil takes the best of both and then some more, especially with staging. For those considering the Master 7, just be aware of the more polite nature of the PCM1704. I think many people who prefer this sound though: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...dac-chart-of-awesomeness.63/page-6#post-22006

Do you think we could add a category for bluetooth speakers and speakers? I don't have any recommendations but interested in reading reviews of those on here.

Interesting. I have heard people say DAC-19 is on par with Gungnir Multibit and so I thought Master 7 with Amenaro would be on par with Yggdrasil. Different flavour of course.

Yeah, and I've heard people say the Fidelio X2 is on par with the HD6X0.

    It isn't.

Since you have heard both Yggdrasil and Master 7 with Amenero can you tell me how they compare?

OK, you got me. Sometimes I disagree with people I think have pretty good ears.

No, I would like to. In case I wasn't clear, I was simply trying to steer you away from the, "Well this group of people said X is as good as Y." It doesn't always hold true and can lead you down a path of wasted money if you aren't very careful. It's best to ignore those impressions UNLESS you are ABSOLUTELY sure you very much trust a certain individuals (or certain group of people) ears relative to your own. Otherwise you could say some $30 headphone is comparable to some actually high-end headphone just because someone inexperienced and/or with crappy gear said so.

They very well may be comparable, though likely still different.

I agree with you on that, I was just pointing out that other people have had other impressions. Everything should be taken with a grain of salt, even what purrin says :D

No, no, remember, purrin is the Messiah.

Seems we're on the same page, more or less.

Someone send me a Gungnir Multibit and DAC-19 so I may offer a definitive and absolute judgement!

My understanding is that in general, differences in DACs are not as drastic/noticeable as the differences between headphones. I hope I don't get the urge to try upgrading from Gungnir Multibit (which I haven't even started using yet!) for a long time.

I've had the X2 and the HD6x0 at the same time. My opinion - they sound somewhat similar though the X2 is boosted down low and up high, but I didn't feel they were on par. Sure the X2 is a more "fun" headphone and doesn't really need amping to sound good, but it's not as refined and isn't as accurate in terms of timbre/tone. It was a noticeable difference. One of the very few times I disagreed with Tyll's assessment. (Definitely better than the X1 and a good deal if <= $200.)

I would have considered giving Audio-GD a shot if they had a US distributor, seems to be great performance at a good price a la Schiit.

Most of that can be explained by amps and headphones used. The Master 7 (with the OR5 i2s, which I am assuming is probably still better than the Amanero) wasn't nearly resolving as much as the Yggdrasil. The stage was more pushed back on the M7, but had zero depth. The background was greyer and the dynamics weren't as good. If you are using amps that won't resolve and/or headphones that are bright, then you might prefer the AGD DACs.

Keep in mind that I sold the M7 in two days after I got my Sonic Frontiers SFD-1. I like Richard Gere sometimes too; but only after Lou Gossett Jr. kicks his ass.

Well, I do like the Yggdrasil from what I've heard, and while I might like the DAC19 if I get to hear one, maybe even more than a Schiit MB DAC, that doesn't necessarily mean I'll think it's better outright. Personal tastes vs thinking bigger picture. :p

But yes, goo is my life, my love, my everything.
