    Hi,

I am considering purchasing a uptone ISO regen based on reviews of the previous one. I have a LH labs geek pulse Xfi with matching LPS. However I feel this group can cut through the hypetrain and tell me if that makes sense?

I should add that I am considering a DAC upgrade in near future and would like to have it for a potential Holo Spring DAC or Soekris r2r

It really doesn't make sense to buy a new product based on reviews of it's predecessor ... wait for reviews on the actual product you're actually looking at buying.

Even if it did everything it claimed, and servicing those claims resulted in audible benefits, it's still going to be limited by the comparatively noisy USB implementation in the DAC itself (speaking generally, the USB receiver setup inside the DAC will be far noisier than S/PDIF implementations). In other words, as long as it's still USB there are hard limits as to what you can achieve and no external box can fix the USB issues that exist in the DAC itself.

If you must add a box between your source and DAC, stick to something that doesn't keep you in USB land.

And for the Holo Spring DAC I wouldn't bother with anything that didn't get you an I2S interface.

This thread is where to start for further discussions of such things.

As @Torq mentionned , there's a generic thread for that kind of question.
