    1. People here are generally capable of disagreeing with one another without resorting to personal attacks or pointless arguments. I just want to discuss audio, joke around and have a good time, man -- this hobby is small enough without the bickering.

    2. The moderation approach is just strict enough that incredibly stupid questions, trolls, "truth-bringers", and the like are kept to a minimum. Users on other audio forums routinely make me wonder how they survived for so long without any critical thinking or life skills.

    3. The merit system ensures that reviews and impressions are trustworthy and based on extensive experience. Tons of people elsewhere write authoritative reviews that they have no business writing, like the guy who uses the word "best" despite only having tried one product, or the "reviewer" whose portfolio solely consists of glowing reviews of free samples from unknown companies.

    4. There's a sense of community here - I like reading through the new members' introduction thread and recognizing usernames and gear preferences.

    5. The content is community-focused; in other words, people think "Will my impressions improve the body of knowledge?" and not "I haven't done any research, but that's okay, I'll just spew a few words out and have these schmucks do my work for me."

Well the way I understand it is that OJ was recently fired from his job as SBAF portfolio manager, Marv keeps saying that the check's in the mail, and everyone seems to have a shiny new Utopia, so my best guess is that our dividends are tied up until Focal's hostile takeover goes through. Meanwhile I'm no longer too worried about it, having been pacified by Schiit's Christmas giftbag full of rose gold edition Lokis (a.k.a. Overpriced Schiit).

For me, CS and now SBAF make me think long and hard about making A post. That's discipline that comes with an uncluttered mind and I've come to appreciate that.

The OP's question was about why SuperBAF's opinions on gear differed from "other" or "mainstream" places. First of all, I am not sure what is "mainstream" or "other". Is this site not mainstream, or at least one of the mainstream sites? Gear that has been positively received here is usually positively received elsewhere. Vice versa also tends to be true with some exceptions. The differences are that we take more nuanced views (what aspects are good and what aspects are not good), we compare against like priced products, and we don't think everything is good (4.2 to 5 stars, gold medal winners, etc.). The experienced people here are not afraid to recommend to others gear that they may not necessarily like themselves, but feel that others might like given their preferences. Finally, while there is consensus on certain products, not everybody agrees on everything.

What are the reasons why SuperBAF is different than the others? We buy most of the gear ourselves. In instances where manufacturers have given us loaners, it has always been without conditions on what we can say or not say. The operation of this site is self-funded and not dependent on manufacturers' advertising. We use measurements as a reality check. Most importantly, the forum is moderated in terms of quality of content.

    That 2nd paragraph nails it.

So we're like the Tyrone of audio thinking? Doin' it long hard style.

You may wish to use a dark CSS style then, for all of the internets:

This forum is different not because of opinions expressed here but because of how and who.
I am just a classical music listener without any experience in audio engineering and I realize that a lot of people on this forum are real pros.
I did not post much but every time I asked a question or made a comment without getting over my head, the responses were helpful. That a contrast to some of the forums where threads run for hundreds of pages and everything worth reading could easily fit to three pages.
Good summary of it "Most importantly, the forum is moderated in terms of quality of content."

If you have one post or many what you post is held to the same standard of explanation. Marvey's first post to this thread asked for explaination. Their are people here that are happy to talk about equipment that dose not meet their needs or tast but has it's own personally and may fit someone else. The people who contribute here and how the moderators seem to want discussion not attacks. Their is no perfect headphone, speaker, amp, DAC and no two ears are the same that is part of the experience of this passion.

I saw this before somewhere here but couldn't figure WTF you guys were on about. Can someone explain "gauravidian"? I tend to be rather dense sometimes.

Edit: Like here. Seems to be related to plankton?

I Googled myself that far but still couldn't figure out the connection to audio. Mostly Indian celebs.

Guess this is (part of) what's separating me from friend status. :(
