Second take: bass and sub-bass is there but with middling impact. Dynamics are limp, too. Would need a longer listen and could certainly see getting addicted to the detail (and blackness between notes), but I just might not be an e-stat guy.
LCD-4: Yes! Bass! Thunder! Holy hell, never heard this kind of synth bass before. Impact, texture, and detail down low. Does mids just fine, too. Nice clarity. Top end maybe shouty? Mostly listened w/ Roon/Audeze's EQ pre-set.
Through a Naim Uniti headphone amp (neat AIO, decent SQ, huge volume knob, size of a mini-pancake). Comfort is... not bad for weight of these drivers/cups. But after a few minutes, you feel the weight for sure. Might be a dealbreaker.
Focal Stellia: pretty correct sounding for a closed-back. Controlled bass. Nice sense of detail, decent stage width. Pretty reminiscent of Utopia, minus some of the magic. Comfortable and light, esp. after the LCD-4. Fugly color. Makes me want to quote Streetcar Named Desire. Stellia!!!
Could be! It was a five-minute listen at a not pristinely quiet hi-fi shop, so drew no strong conclusions other than, Pretty good! I seem to make up my mind pretty quick these days and felt that I'd prefer the Verite Closed, which is probably more colored but also more fun.
