Can't go wrong at that price unless you want a lot of bass. They were my first open too. It's nice that the black ones come with a shorter 3.5mm cable as well

Anyone try the Momentum 2.0 over ear?

I did. Even prettier than Momentum 1.0 over ear. The pads aren't significantly larger, but large enough to add a bit more air and also better seal on my above average sized ears. The fit and finish is superb, and it is so light and hugs the head so softly, no fatigue for wearing these. Sound is polite and rolled, easy listen. Sound quality is pretty much the same as the first momentum, almost identical, but perhaps a tiny hair more refined. There is definitely a suck out of upper treble, but it didn't bother me. I like them a lot. Still have the first gen momentum, but will probably buy a second gen one when sale comes up. Not worth the full retail price.

    Dear people,

Is anyone here familiar with the Parasound D/AC-1100HD?

I want to try an affordable multibit DAC but since Schiit has no distributor in my country it's difficult to audition one.

A friend owns this DAC and I might persuade him to sell it to me. My only worry is that it has been heavily modified. Following is the list of procedures done according to him:
    1. PCM63 replaced with higher grade K chips
    2. Complete recap of all electrolytic caps
    3. Analogue stage replaced with discrete I/V designed by Colin Toole
    4. Voltage regulators for analogue stage replaced with Belleson super regulators
Unfortunately we haven't decided a micro meet yet to listen to his DAC. It's bulky and heavy according to him.

    Any advise will be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Jeremiah

Thanks for the impressions! They're on sale for $250 at Sonic... Tempted at that price.

If you don't like it, you can always sell it for more than you paid for it.

    Quick question here.

The Liquid Carbon is currently on my radar but I'm wondering if it's worth the investment if I'm not intending to get a DAC with balanced output.

I suppose I could go with DAC --(SE)--> LC --(Bal)--> Headphones but I'm not entirely sure how much I'm giving away by not going fully balanced.

I'm eyeing the Bifrost Multibit by the way.

Additionally, a minority of my headphones/IEMs will be balanced so I'm curious if the SE HO is worth getting into.

Apologies if this question has already been asked.

I will soon (hopefully) have that exact setup (Bifrost Multibit->Liquid Carbon).

Sounds like two different issues. On the input, Alex has said several times (on HF) that the LC splits the SE input, with no real loss of quality (a quick search there should work).

Using SE headphones with the LC is a different matter. The SE out gets far less power than the balanced out and will not sound as good.

I loved the D/AC-1100 when I had it with the gustard U12. Mine was also upgraded with the higher grade K chips but didn't have the extensive mods. If you can get it for a good price, then definitely go to it. I'd place the sound definitely far above the DS gungnir but probably lower than a Gungnir Multibit. Considering that the Bifrost Multibit is comparable to the transdac, I might place the d/ac-1100 about the Bifrost Multibit as well (assuming good usb/spdif converter).

I'm looking for a portable rig, and I have a question about CIEM vs closed headphone. If taking out the portability of the two (obviously IEM will be a lot smaller), and focus purely on sound quality, I guess closed headphone are better than CIEM right? I'm looking at 500-600$ budget like an OPPO PM-3.

The pm3 seemed a little heavy to me for long listening. Still... Probably the only thing holding me back is annoyance about non-replaceable earpads. Come on, Oppo! Decent for all genres.. Which is tough for a closed back.

Do it! As noted, it's not bass-heavy, but it sounds quite good. Even with my much fancier headphones, I can still enjoy music from my HD598s. I use them as my primary gaming can at home as well.

The HD598 is my absolute go-to when I play FPS games. I have the G4me Zero for other game types as well (although they're at work), but I refuse to get competitive in an FPS without my 598s. They are superb at making you seem like a cheater.

Except for large-scale classical because of the six-foot-deep soundstage.
