    Urd won't respond to USB commands from a computer. You probably wouldn't want to use it for ripping anyway because Urd can only read at 1x speed. A computer USB CD/DVD drive costs as little as $25 and can read at up to 24x speed.

    I don't mean to take us too far off topic but beware of cheap USB CD/DVD drives as they can do a poor job of ripping. I had an LG one that was useless. Using software that looked for errors in the rip, every few songs would have problems. I ended up purloining a relative's 2012 MacBook Pro, which has an excellent drive in it, and it almost never gives me bad rips.

    Wondering if the upgrade is worth the cost if I’m using it just as a transport when I already have a good Arcam CD73.

    FWIW - went down the rabbit hole 5 years ago looking for an affordable cd “ripper” that measured well and ended up with this Lite On:

    On topic, i'm also having the same doubt as you @Mystic. I understand that, at first sight, it's a no but has so many advantages at the same time...some i could use now or even in the future.

    When I say "cheap" I don't necessarily mean $25. A good external CD ripper that doesn't f**k up files can be had for very little money though.

    This is flashback city for me. Mike’s Theta Data transport was at the heart of my LAST attempt to make my (in hindsight foolishly hasty) adoption of early digital actually work… the problem THEN wasn’t Mike’s work with Theta, it was “upstream” with the arrogant engineer/masterers (in most cases) and their Scheit digitized masters.

    So I went back full on to Vinyl for the next 20+ years and had “life”… <grin>

    I will bet Urd is killer. Lust is now building.

    Since i have to import all the way to EUR, i am going to wait 1 -2 months.

    I am also curious since i decided to get one, if it works properly, not only the CD but the hub part, which can be very interesting.
