Or he repeatedly plays the depth charge scenes in U571 and just can't seem to make it to 140dB? His wife must be... tolerant... (or non-existant?)

That and the intro to Edge of Tomorrow. If you can breath during that tone he doesn't have enough subs.

Or maybe he got himself a pair of these bad boys... https://www.mach5audio.com/product/w0w-32-subwoofer/

Or is one of the few guys to legitimately install a rotary subwoofer and pressurizes his entire theatre.

In his post he says he has six JTR Captivators on order.

Also, rotary subwoofers are so cool! There's a satisfying video of a DIY one on YouTube somewhere. Flexes window panes and opens and closes doors.

I know they’re only 12-inchers, but I bet he could cause issues with the framing in his house if he went with Ken Kreisel’s “DXD-12012 QUATTRO-QUATTRO” package at $47k.

Multiple organ failure by low frequency overload. Today's word: "cavitation"

Distraught husband gazing around his concrete-reinforced audio room w/16 subs in plain sight,

    "Why, God--WHY?"

I didn't check, but I'd like to think the JTR Orbit Shifter's manual has this proviso burned in the back:

    ADVISORY:
Female listeners are advised to wear athletic-style bras when near these subs. Male users are advised to wear jockstraps when near these subs. Please keep pets out of the sound room to avoid involuntary pet euthanasia.

Monarchy Audio SE-250 on eBay - I've been watching these for a while. The story is that there are four pairs of these amps available for sale, and they're the last four that were made before C.C. Poon retired and closed up Monarchy. This account keeps listing them for auction. Current "bid" is $2,850 for a pair, and that's the lowest I've seen. They say they have four pairs available, and I have yet to see them actually end in a sale. Not sure how low they'll end up going, but, I have my eye on them, and thought I'd share here. Do note - local pickup only in San Mateo, CA. If you need shipping, make arrangements!

For reference, I have two Monarchy SM-70 Pros that I love, and paid about $1500 used for both, so, this is starting to feel like "good deal" territory. I haven't heard these SE-250s before, but if they're anything like the SM-70s, they could be quite good indeed.

There's a few reviews online, here's one for reference. Class A, no negative feedback, tube hybrid if that's your thing.

Same seller also has three MA-24 DAC/Preamps, but I haven't seen the price drop quite so dramatically, and it seems more like an "OK" deal, rather than a good one.

He's upgrading to 12 18" subs with 24000 watts, so, you know, better!

Apropos of nothing, this reminds me of a bizarre thing I read ~35 years ago in one of the high end audio rags. They were extolling the bravery & ingenuity of an extreme DIY'er for whom no currently available subwoofers (circa '88) were good enough, so he made his own: If memory serves it was either 36" or 48" in diameter:
    • He sawed a perfectly round hole in the floor of his living room (which one hopes was carpeted)
    • Installed this immense woofer in the hole...
    • ...using the entire basement as the sub's enclosure
    • Then somehow wired it into one enormous amp, or a bunch of enormous amps (can't recall which)
    • Then somehow tied the whole mess into the "Low" output of a custom built electronic crossover
These audiophile geeks marveled at him, obviously unable to summon up the will (or death wish) to do something similar themselves. For me, the whole tone of this thing was way off. I saw this guy as the equivalent of one of those brave-to-the-point-of-suicidal Philipino men who has himself actually nailed to the huge wooden cross that gets dragged around the streets at Easter time. Everyone would understand if he opted to be tied to the cross, but noooooooo, not extreme enough. Railroad spikes for me!

Getting back to the Jacques Cousteau of subwoofers, I always wondered about 3 things:
    1. If the man had any loved ones, how far away did they move & how quickly suspend all contact with him?
    2. How long did it take him to drunkenly stumble across his living room and fall right though that sub?
    3. How long did it take his roof supports to give way from "unanticipated torsional forces not anticipated in conventional roof framing"?*
*not covered by homeowners' insurance, naturally

PS: One good thing came out of the massive sub experiment. His basement rodent infestation was completely eliminated (presumably by rodent multi-organ failure)
