No problem guys. One thing to note is that you'll have to snip off the fins at the end of the grill to get them to fit properly in the HIFIMAN cups.

Here's the Amazon link - remember to buy 2. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY BUY THE 80MM, NOT THE 140.

I can advise how to fit them - you do NOT use any stock parts - they are snipped down and then filed to become a snap fit in the HE-6.

Hi guys! I found a used BTG cable that had speaker connectors for Hifiman. I bought it and tried HE-6 on my custom power amp. Wow! Just wow! I had no idea these headphones could sound so damn good! It was like having a pair of great speakers on my head! I used my Pioneer VSX-LX 77 as preamp and added a touch of eq. Right now they are stock because I was planning to sell them, but after this experience I'm gonna keep them and try mods.:D

He-6 and HD650 are the two headphones that will never leave my stable.

    Dual HE-6!

I'm trying to compare my cables actually...Figured this would be the best way to do it.

Are they both the same "screw" type?

Hi everyone, Im looking for a speaker amp for my he-6 at or below $1000, it also needs to have pre outs. Currently looking at the Marantz PM-8005. Can I do better? Im new to this so thanks!

EDIT: Also would this amp be safe to use with my 1/4" to binding post adapter cable? I read a little earlier in this thread that you can't use TRS through speaker taps with some amps? Wouldn't want to blow anything up :D

I would contact any manufacturer directly before attempting to using a TRS to plug cable, I know my Anthem was fine with it, and I know the an emotiva mini-x is as well. But whether or not the circuit in any given amp is common grounded is not normally readily available in the sale literature. That said, just re-terminate or buy a XLR to banana plugs cable, then there is zero guess work.

Integrated amps I would be looking at in the +/- $1000 used range.

    Anthem 225
    Krell S-300
    Rogue Sphinx
    Yamaha A-S2000
    NAD C356BEE
    Moon 220i
    musical fidelity A3.5
    Wyred 4 Sound Mint
    Naim Nait 5i
    Harmon HK990
    Teac AI-1000

    Lots of vintage stuff

Krell KAV-400xi but you need to stretch your budget a bit. BTW, you never lose money on one of these if you can buy around $1500.

Thanks for the list thats a big help. So just to clarity, I need to ask if the amp is common grounded and if it is I can use a TRS cable?

Ill keep my eye out for the krell as well!

Yes, though really just build or buy the xlr cable, it's a more secure connection, and removes the guess work.

@ohhgourami Have you ever heard the S300i? how does it compare to the KAV400xi, I know in reviews most people said it was an improvement as it used the EVO preamp design, but I have definitely noticed despite being newer it sells for less used, which prob tells the true story. Just curious.

I only ask because my custom cable is terminated in TRS but I also have the original he-6 XLR cable so I might just stick with that, seems like the safe route. Anyone know if the Krell KAV-400xi has pre-outs for active monitors? Thats #1 on my list at the moment :p

I like to use the tape out on my anthem, and a schiit sys to my LSR305s, that way I can leave the volume at 0 can control my monitors with the sys when i don't want to use the HE-6. Seems the Krell would do the same with equal ease.

Never heard the S300i but if it sounds anything like an EVO amp, it should sound better throughout the frequencies with a bit more brightness.

Both have the features you are looking for with the convience of having a remote.

Yeah I'm just really confused why they sell for $3-400 less used given the age difference. I like the look of the S300i more so than the older xi line, but I'm not in the market atm for more amps. Maybe next year. It might be a solid buy for Malabargold, there seem to be a few sitting around for under $1300 asking price.
