HD6XX limited edition @ $300-$400 with SBAF mods or derivatives implemented by massdrop and sennheiser. It's gonna have 2000+ units sold.

$300-$400 seems a little pricey. We'll see what Christian can do : )

I hope the HD6XX is happening. We got to make a HD6XX thread and discuss what we want in the HD6XX.

I want the HD6XX to have HD580 tuning with HD650 bass and HD800 resolution. Do some magic and make it happen.

    To bring this on topic:

Just got the TH-X00s from MD today, 1st impressions:

    - OMG the Bass rumble/extension is nuts, love these things with EDM...pretty well controlled as well
    - Pretty efficient (8-9 O'clock volume on Magni vs 10-11 O'clock on HE-400i's)
    - Not as sibilant as HE-400i's can be with sensitive recordings

That said, if MD wants to do another drop, it would be great if they..

    - Redo the cabling, it's way too thick, quite a bit too long, and is terminated to a 1/4 inch plug that feels like it's made out of Solid Lead, given these cans are fairly efficient and closed-ish, they have potential for use on the go, it would be much more convenient to have a shorter cable terminated to a 3.5mm plug, and include an 1/4 inch adaptor for desktop, instead of the arrangement now, especially considering these are non-replaceable.

I'm wondering what a good cheap amp for these would be? I don't think my Valhalla 2 is going to work very well with them based on earlier impressions in this thread.

Would a Magni 2 or Vali 2 be much better?

I like the Vali 2(even in stock tube) over Magni 2 with X00. YMMV

Was hoping someone would say that. I really want to try the Vali 2 in general. Still looking into best/worst for these cans but it looks like a contender.

I'd rather buy TH610 if I'm going to wait a month. I'll pass.

You'd rather buy a (most probably) rebranded TH600 which has been deemed as "special" by SBAF instead of the X00?

Well, for one, TH610 sensitivity is 98 db as opposed to 94 db of THX00 so I doubt it's the same driver. It may have been modified, probably.

I own and like the Sony MDR-1A. I'm looking for more and cleaner bass and more clarity overall while keeping the dark-ish signature. Would the TH-X00 give me that? Or maybe the LCD2?

X00 would be the way to go if you want something more along the lines of the 1A in terms of FR and timbre. The LCD2 is a different sound (and also a lot more money and a lot more weight.)

You could always mod the MDR-1A. I modded my MDR-1R and it's a hell of a lot better than stock. Cleaner and more neutral bass, yet still with something extra down low, smoother, better integrated, and better extended treble, overall much cleaner and clearer sounding, etc.

X00 is likely going to have better bass and mids, but upper-treble might actually be brighter. I don't know how much different the 1A sounds vs 1R thought. FWIW the stock X00 was a hell of a lot better than the stock 1R, but, then again, maybe the 1A is a big improvement too.

Thanks. To get an idea where I'm coming from, I also own: Grado SR80s and AKG K7XXs. The shortest way I'd describe these is: Grados - fun but no bass; K7XX - boring, just boring and not enough bass by my standards. I prefer the MDR-1As BY FAR. There's not enough emphasis for this :D I can't think of one situation when I'd choose the K7XXs. However, the 1As are not perfect. I'd just like a bit more sub-bass (not boomy, mind you) and a more open sound, maybe a bit of high-end sparkle would not hurt?

Never listened to the 1R but all the reviews say the 1A is better.
