Had a chance to check these out this weekend... Really fun headphones, very bass heavy :)

The main thing that stood out to me thought was the earpads.. I mean these headphones felt more like on ears rather than around the ear headphones.. Something I did not experience with the Denon AH-D5000's... Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, the earpads are smaller than the old Denon DX00 series, in fact I think they're the exact same as the Fostex TH500RP earpads. The earpads are responsible for a major portion of the headphone's tuning as well.

It's a shame, because it's such a pleasing headphone to listen to and look at, but I couldn't keep mine because I found the earpads too small. I'm the type of guy that needs a huge amount of space for my ears to breathe, which is part of why I liked the HD800 so much.

Seems like the upcoming TH-X00 model might be ebony.

Milking the wood colors much? Sure takes a bit of the pride of ownership out of the picture when the purple heart buyers haven't even shipped yet.

Man - the comparative FR curve they posted makes it look like these may well be the best of the TH-X00's. (Color of lines corresponds to color of wood.)

Yeah, looks a good deal less bumpy than the others, plus that ebony wood looks amazing.

FR looks great but 450g vs 390g for the PH. My weak, puny neck is telling my wallet to calm down.

EDIT: It appears 350g is mahogany, 390g for PH.

The ebony definitely looks the best imo, but I feel like they are going to continue to get new woods and keep chugging these out. I don't know how many other woods are available and used for headphones, but the more releases they can do, the more money they can get.

Per the post on our drop page, Ebony is the last wood type we're exploring for the TH-X00.

Not explicitly, but generally - does Massdrop have plans for other Fostex headphone collabs in the near future?

Free April Fool's suggestion: Offer a color-mod kit for the TH-X00 and post a pack of sharpies... Color-mod kit for the K7XX = pack of metallic sharpies... Custom keycaps = blank white caps + sharpies. Repeat as necessary, the possibilities are endless.

"But I wanted a BLUE one!"
    "Here you go."
