This was my impression of the loaner as well. Smack some non-perf, sloped leather pads w/ firm foam on there (eikon pads probably but haven't rolled on the Sundara) - problem solved!

These sounded quite good in the store. Bass was kinda light. I would need more time with these though.

New or used? Just wondering about break-in. I've been eyeing the Sundara for awhile ... mostly b/c they're so bloody cheap right now and I can't get myself to buy HFM used due to QC paranoia and non-transferable warranty.

@jazztherapist These are new and I have put about 30 hours on them at this point. I'm a little skeptical that they'll change much on further break in though.

@E_Schaaf Can you recommend a pad that is easily swappable to the Sundara? I can buy the little retaining ring, if I go that route. Edit - oh i see, Eikon pads...

Eikon pads were a recommendation just off the top of my head - haven't pad rolled on the Sundara specifically, but from what I know of how the pads affect the sound and the response of the Sundara I was thinking those might be a good fit... now that I think about it Ori pads might be better though. I don't bother with the rings, they're too hard to deal with. I just cover the housing with double stick tape.

What's your take on Ananda relative to Sundara? Those are creeping down into the $600-$700 range now.

I liked the Ananda a lot. I would have kept it but for me it didn't fit on my head/ears comfortably. It's slightly better than Sundara.
