This is pretty much a BWC-exclusive issue. The 14" woofers on my L55s are more than enough for my small space. Sometimes I find myself wanting even more...

Bounce me if this isn't easily answerable, but if I wanted to track down a solid set of huge, vintage speakers that are both worthwhile and not a million dollars, is JBL where to look? It seems like many people have or seek these.

There are some good offerings from ADS, Altec, JBL, Yamaha, Kenwood, Pioneer, others. Designs mostly from '73-'83. A lot of crud out there even from these companies too but if you know what to look for there are some amazing opportunities to be had. JBL + Altec from this time are pretty great across the board.

Believe me @skem if I could afford it I'd have literal stacks of subs floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall. I am not ashamed of being a basshead when it comes to loudspeakers. Headphones are a different story since they'll never rattle my ribcage regardless of relative bass quantity.

Not to mention I've already got 5 noise complaints (as low as 85dB mid-day in my listening position) in less than a year and I'm sure my upstairs neighbors wouldn't love even one subwoofer in my space.

"With 5000 subwoofers, modal variation is virtually
eliminated ... " is the best thing I've encountered today. Nice analysis though.
