Setting the region to "J" is supposed to improve treble smoothness, but Rockbox needs you to reset the settings, and I cbf'd to do that.

Can you use the stock EQ to achieve the same results?

You don't need to reset the settings, just turn the zx300 off and on again. Thats what mrwalkman recommends and from checking
for region-specific features after reboot it seems to work just fine.

Also I am uncertain if the region "sounds" are literal FR changes since most online measurements show the ZX300 to have a decently flat FR, but they do seem to change the sound. Maybe it's just different upsampling filters.

@JK47 the bass extension could probably be achieved with EQ, but it sounds like something more than that. I don't have a lot of time to listen critically, so can't say much other than it's different and kind of better. It's reversible if you don't like it.
