stay in storage awhile. I've got two needs for an amp: power Klipsch Forte IIIs and Susvara. I'm thinking the Enleum Amp-23R is a great contender for that. Bought used shouldn't be too crazy.
One issue with the Enleum is that it only has two sets of inputs (three if you count the weird BNC inputs). One goes to the DAC. The other goes to phono needs. Trouble is I've got three tonearms to provide for (and I don't want to be forever switching plugs).
One possibility is an EAR tube phono with a SUT that can take three inputs. Not easy to find latter, but AirTight makes one.
Or there are various solid-state phono stages (Phasemation, Accuphase, Sugden) that take three inputs. However, I've much preferred tube stages in the past, especially when the main amp is solid-state.
Early stages on this, so fun for now. Open to ideas! Thanks!
Enleum AMP-23r is crazy good with my Forte IV, favorite piece of gear I have ever heard really. Very good fit for a downsized system. Finally was the piece that turned my Forte system into my primary system over my Tavish Adagio/Holo May+Bliss/Line Magnetic LM-805ia into Graham Chartwell LS3/5a system that I had considered my reference.
I heard it briefly in a hi-fi shop and am pretty interested to revisit. Seems like a pretty unique amp to be strong with HPs and sensitive speakers. Is the volume control stepped? I tend not to like stepped volume, as I ride the knob (yah!) to get just the dB I want.
@wbass yeah very nice bass heft, but not unnatural or too bloated. That subtle midbass boost is just right. Very a holographic sounding (but a tad warm and very musical) amp with the forte compared to everything else I heard. The volume control is interesting, as it is a gain control. It has clicks, but there are volume spots between the clicks, very very fine volume control.
Nice. Sounds very promising. Thanks for the feedback. If I can figure out how to get three tonearms to run into phono stage, then the minimal inputs on the Enleum shouldn't be an issue.
P3ESR-XD (not the original P3ESRs), Heed Obelisk SI MKIII, a smallish REL turned way down for fill and staging. They'll fill a medium sized room at a distance or pull them in for pretty striking staging in nearfield. Very very natural sounding.
@wbass I somehow missed that you are also looking for something for the Susvara. While I have not heard that combo, folks rave about it. AMP-23r is too perfect of a fit for a small profile device for Forte+Susvara.
@Justin S Probably not moving away from the Klipsch Forte III. I'm not a huge mini-monitor fan, personally, and the Forte's do well at lower volumes, which I might be forced to embrace. But thanks for the suggestion.
Mostly just trying to figure out the amp/phono pre situation. Down the road I might check out Quad 57s though, as had a pretty amazing audition of those a few years ago.
