That sucks... Is it a Gigabyte model? They tend to be a bit larger. I usually input my build into pcpartpicker to see if there are any compatibility issues. Doesn't catch everything, but better than nothing.

It's a MSI with the metal backplate. My heatsink pushes onto my my videocard's PCB

Wow I have never heard of that happening. Your CPU fan must be huge. Do you have more than one PCI-E slot you can just put it into the other one.

I built this PC 4 years ago for college. I used a small case, m-atx mobo, and a giant noctua cpu heatsink with dual fans. Unfortunately I only have 1 pci-e slot. My 5-6 year old hd 5770 finally died two nights ago so I'm using my spare hd 5750 for now. I don't game much except for pcsx2 and sc2 so I guess I don't really need to upg.

Can you buy a different heat sink? I guess that equals more money

Is the motherboard smaller than ATX formfactor? I have an NH-D14 on an ATX motherboard and the only clearance issues I have are with RAM.

I have the NH-C14. The pci-e slot is just too close to the cpu socket on the mobo. Yes, it is a mini-ATX mobo. No big deal I guess, I'll just hold off til I find a need to build a new PC. If not, I'll grab a 750 TI.

Yeah as you'd expect the components on a mini-ATX are going to be much closer to each other and large air coolers can be a problem.
