FOR SALE: Monolith Liquid Gold X headphone amp in like-new condition

I purchased this amp (a re-license of the original Cavalli circuit) directly from Monoprice in late 2021 (price was $799 + NYS tax). I burned it in for ~ 150 hrs, then used it occasionally in one of my home office systems. This LGX has no more than 25 total hours use after burn-in I have 2 systems, 9 amps, and listen once or twice per week at most, so no one amp gets much use.

This is a powerful solid state amplifier that will drive any headphone out there. It has full input/output capabilities for single-ended and balanced use. It also has a built-in DAC that I never used.

The LGX has a slightly warm, spacious sound. I'm only selling because I just got a bigger, even stronger SS amp and have run out of room.

This unit is in perfect operational condition. I can't see any flaws or scuffs on it. Will ship this in the original packaging.

No longer an ortho guy, but this amp (w convenience akm DAC) has BDE for a planar SS amp.

If Im not mistaken this thing puts 6.3W into 32R, so pharmaboys not kidding when he says it can drive most anything.

but perhaps counterintuitively it’s best when driving high efficiency orthos. Something ab a ton of current and low OI really does something for the lcd-x, lcd-2, etc.

Also, it is a excellent mate for the higher impedance lcd-4. I’ve only tried it w audezes but I imagine most planars would fare well on it.

this is a great price too, the someone that should buy this should be:

- ortho lover
- have audeze, hfm, Dan Clark, caldera, etc
- want to accentuate planar bass slam
- want warm-neutral sig
- want v open and water-like transparent soundstage
- want a solid, reliable, great-sounding ss amp for a cheap and cheerful price (this amp acc to cavalli is the actual LG shrunk down to a smaller size, believe what you will there, but that’s what the man himself said)

 

Every word of this post is true. The LGX is a killer amp for planar headphones. They all sound terrific on it. With dynamic drivers it may sound wonderful on one and not so wonderful on another...no idea why that is.

 

one last thing since pharma has a cool ass USAM name:

the LD50 of this amp for your ears is 10:30 on LOW gain, anything past that and you risk hearing damage for any extended period of time past that—it's just that full of go go juice.

don't even ask ab high gain.
