Won't it be interesting to combine a ultra low jitter(DDS clock), galvanic isolated usb decrapper(Mutec Mc3+USB) directly into a full digital PWM dac-amp like the NAD390DD? NAD390DD also comes with built-in room EQ. This is a much simpler chain* vs other audiophile setup that involves many other analog preamp stages and interconnects.

    There's also this expensive beast:
    http://www.lyngdorf.com/products/tdai-2170
USD$4,999.99 (amazon listed price with free shipping)

Wonder how does it compete against something like Schiit Yggdrasil + Ragnarok setup which is $3998(without considering cost of interconnects + shipping), maybe @Torq can consider this tdai-2170.

Nice in concept in terms of trying to keep things as straight forward as possible, but in reality it'll just come down to the quality of the amp in question.

I used to have the NAD C390DD. I thought it was very nice, but not quite spectacular.

I think that the MSB headphone amp has a similar concept. Basically a DAC with an output stage strong enough to drive headphones. DSD is practically PWM and it would be interesting if someone can develop something that converts DSD straight into amplified signals.

However it is worth mentioning that Bruno Putzey, class D virtuoso, is critical of direct digital implementations.

He has also said that class A should always perform better then class D if designed properly, just that most aren't(which means not designed his way). He mainly does class D because that's his niche.

Though it's worth noting that paper by Bruno was from 2004. There has been a lot of development since then. I don't think his UcD modules were even out yet, nevermind his latest Ncore amps.

True. However UcD and NCore are both analog class D, not digital class D. Looking at his other projects it doesn't appear he's tried to release a direct digital product either. I doubt he's changed his position on this.
