I have a thing about established companies using crowdfunding to get products made. I was initially a big proponent of Kickstarter but now tend to ignore it. Look at the debacle with all the LH Labs crowd funding for how badly it can go off the rails.

What happened to companies coming up with a product, manufacturing it, and selling it on the premise that it's a good product and people will want it?

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your thoughts and have seen plenty of failures but also successes. Regarding established companies using it, I see your point but we are a small company and need the support of our fans to make this happen...or not. Believe me, I wish we didn't have to but the reality is we don't have huge bank accounts, or investors. We haven't really told the story well yet but HeadRoom is now employee owned and run by five individuals. We bought out the big wig investor a couple years back with every penny we had. So, we're bootstrapping and yes, crowdfunding. Thanks again for the input!

@Jamey Warren I appreciate you taking the time to consider other points of view. I do hope you are successful and I look forward to hearing reviews of this once it's available.

Just curious. You took pre-orders for your new Standard Amp, and switched this time to crowd-funding for this project. What was the thought process for the switch?

We could do the amp in much smaller quantities and didn't really "need" the pre-order but we did need to know how many to make. With the headphone, we have to buy parts in much larger quantities.

I'm in talking to Mike Olsen about this headphone for a while. I've auditioned everything from the LCD-4 to headfiman 1000 v2, but those are way too expensive for the lack of comfort or incrementally better sound. I have a balanced Ayre QX5 Twenty DAC/amp and I want a world class set of cans to augment the Vandersteen Quatros. Mike knows what I like in sound and these will most probably do the trick. I can't wait for the Kickstarter launch to happen. Very exciting to see such a small company that I've done business with since their first week in business going all out. Folks don't realize how difficult it is to hand make a product in the US (other than drivers). Thanks. Searching for new news on the Cosmic actually helped me find this site too. Bonus time.
