I need a project for this transformer

I have a 50 VA R-Core transformer with 2x24vac secondaries. I need some ideas for a project I can use it with. 24 VAC is usually used with speaker amps, however at 50 VA it's a bit too low. So I need to do a headphone amp or a preamp with it.

I can parallel the wires for 24vac or wire them in series as a center-tapped 48vac winding. I can probably also configure it as a pseudo dual-mono power supply. The voltage seem a bit higher then I would typically see for a headphone project(except tubes) which is why I believe it's difficult for me to find a project for this transformer.

Anybody have any ideas on what I could use this on?

 

Use a voltage doubler and you can get ~140VDC, or use a choke input for more current and a lower voltage.

I have a 2x24VAC 160VA toroid on my bench that I use to play with stuff.

 

I assume this would be for a tube project. Do you have any suggestions on a particular project I can build with 140V B+?

Sigma22 with a 2-channel Beta 22 sounds like the best option. If I had a 160VA transformer I would automatically be doing a speaker amp.

 

Certain high perveance tubes. All-tube linestage/activexover/phono if you're willing to work....or hybrid headamp dealio.

 

6GK5, 6T4, etc. will do fine at that voltage. As will MOSFETs.
