i2s direct

    So much talk about usb decrapfiers, usb to s/pdif converters. But no talk about going i2s direct to by pass all the conversion in the middle.

    Mini board computers have i2s and i2s sound cards exist. Inputs on a dac such as usb and s/pdif gets converted to i2s.

    This topic was already beaten to death about a year ago on Changstar or was that Head-Fi?
    1. There is no standard for anything related to i2s in terms of output from one random box to another random box (DAC.)
    2. i2s is a serial bus, meant to be implemented on a board, not with cables between a DAC and a whatchamacallit box.
    3. OK, let's do funky stuff and use cables... OK, so what kind of cable? HDMI, mini-coax, Ethernet, three separate BNCs for each bus, a D type connector?
    4. Oh wait, what's the pin-out going to be? Hopefully no pop and smoke!
    5. So are we talking about LVDS or SE signalling for the buses?
    6. What if somebody wants to implement a master clock on top of the bit, word, and data line?
    7. Hopefully somebody doesn't multiplex the data line the wrong way.
