Looking at the new OWC 13 port dock for my MacBook Pro and noticed that it has SPDIF out. Would this be a good alternative for plugging my DAC into or would I be better off just going straight to pc via USB3?

I find the whole usb/spdif thing quite confusing - I have read through the huge thread about it here but still don't really understand how goes Thunderbolt > SPDIF > DAC can be better than USB > DAC. I believe all the ears here I just don't quite follow.

unless you have ultra resolving equipment and super ears, you are unlikely to be able to tell the difference. The easiest is to just try each and see if you can tell the difference. If you use the one that sound better.

Also, make sure your cables are all audiophile grade and cost at least $650 each. :)

    No charge this sage advise.
