WTB - Focal Utopia ($3500) [Deal CLOSED]

I have a pair already, but I want a second set.

Local, and not-so-local, dealers say they can't get me another pair until at least January ... and patience is not my strength.

I'm never going to pay full-retail for these, even new, (I didn't for my current pair, not about to start now), but if you have a pair you're not sure about/regretting/just want/need to unload, ping/PM me.

Must be cosmetically and operationally perfect, with full original packaging.

 

Torq if you'd like to wait a bit, Audio Sanctuary might be able to ship you one. My neighbor orders regularly from them and it's cheaper since we're in the US so the VAT is removed. Otherwise, I'm sure you can call around and ask dealers for their best prices.

 

It's availability that's the bigger issue, as I really don't want to wait.

I only mentioned the price since some people, in certain places, seem to think that these headphones should sell for more than MSRP due to their currently-limited availability. Some people might go for that, but despite my general lack of patience, I'm not one of them (I rarely pay MSRP for anything at this price level, since I'm not shy about asking for a better price ... a practice that started when I first got into watch collecting).

I could have put in a pre-order with a number of places promising "mid-November" delivery, and I'd have been disappointed by all of them (since it's now quite definitively "mid-November" and none of the places I contacted actually got more stock yet). Which is one, of several, reasons why I eschew pre-orders for anything that isn't purely custom-built anymore. My usual cadre of Hi-Fi pushers were (and are) all saying "January", and I tend to trust them (as far as I trust anyone that sells anything).

I think Focal are making dealers agree not to ship them, making them collect in person only, at least over here- possibly to stop people taking advantage of grey market savings like that, annoyingly.

 

I have to ask, why a second set?

 

I have multiple homes, with multiple rigs and moving stuff between them constantly gets a bit irritating - not to mention it's very easy for me to simply forget to take whichever cans I want with me, assuming I even know which house I'll be going back to when I leave in the morning in the first place.

Why use the Utopia for this?

It's the best all-in-one all-around compromise between the Abyss, LCD-4 and HD800S I've found so far - which means just having one, excellent, headphone there and not having to move stuff around at all. For a while I'd just been leaving them at other house, but I keep wanting to listen to them at my main home and invariably when I do they're not there.
