To all gungnir owners: If you’ve upgraded to unison and have the old card or just have a gen5 board conspicuously lying around, staring at you, demanding wordlessly to know why you still have it… I’d love to buy it from you :)

You might want to check if the new firmware (for unison) is backward compatible with gen 5.

Yeah this is a good point - Gungnir was the only of the Schiit DAC's to need to be sent back to Schiit, if I'm recalling correctly, for the Unison install.

I think you'd be good if your Gungnir never had a Unison board, though -- every USB board through Gen 5 had the C-Media chips and were self-installable.

oh I had no idea I had to update the firmware with a gen5 upgrade… great advice, thank you.

Just for context, I’m 99.9998% sure my gungnir has never had unison, I don’t even think it’s seen the gen3 upgrade (no sticker below usb input at all, and sounds like absolute trash lol).

I have the Yggdrasil Gen 5 board lying around the house, not sure if that is compatible with the Gungnir model.

So I was actually talking to a member about this exact scenario, a gen5 Yggdrasil board going into a gungnir and he said he emailed Schiit about it, this is what they said:

The Gen 5 USB board should work with both the Yggdrasil and Gungnir.
    All the Best,
    Tom E.

BUT his buyer had problems getting the card into his gungnir? I’m messaging the seller of the card right now to see if the buyer was ever able to make it work… if so, im in.

    Copy pasted.

took a closer look and in fact the Yggdrasil pinout is not compatible with the Gungnir pins; not sure what the hell Schiit was thinking there.

Further Marv's post about it from whenever ago never makes explicit mention of this.

Gungnir came before the Yggdrasil, and probably the Bifrost as well. So it may make sense that they didn't refine their usb stuff until Yggdrasil/Bifrost hence the different pin configurations.
