P.S. I voted for Gore. I don't want people coming to conclusions that I am some radical right wing nut.

Yes, liberals are silly moralists who tend to claim that anyone who doesn't see the overt validity of their opinions must be ignorant.

Despite that, and although I am far from a liberal, I will say that anyone who thinks brexit isn't going to be bad has to be ignorant. Jobs are being shipped out by the second. UK economy is like 80 percent service, a lot of which is financial services. Mercantilism is a literal meme that is tearing Europe apart.

Al gore didn't lose the election XD

Pretty much the reason I voted Trump, he's the only one who stands a chance at disrupting the GOP/Dem monopoly.

Shouldn't UK left-wingers be happy? David Cameron is bye-bye. You're welcome Brits.

Trump's master plan was to drop the eu and pound so that US nationalism makes more sense. What a quality shitposter XD
Although Brexit does probably mean trump is more likely to get elected. And while I think lower euro and lower bond yields will stay, the pound could stabilize.

I'm not optimistic about UK, the pound and the future, but that is partly because I am a pessimist and I stand to loose out if the pound becomes worthless (or even looses ten percent).

However, the world's bankers, traders, finance people etc, are often not the brightest of people and today they are panicking. Headless chickens. When the dust settles we will see the true extent of the damage, and after some time we will see to what extent it gets repaired, and if any of the people with good reasons to vote leave turn out to have been right.

I may be a lefty liberal; I may sometimes believe that those who have other ideas are stupid --- but that does not mean that they are, in any given instance, not stupid. I am as sure as I can be without actually having been there that many many British people will have voted because of ridiculous, semi-fictional ideas about EU rules and regulations impacting their freedom, or because they think that misplaced ideas of sovereignty and nationalism make them believe that it is not a good idea to have other courts to appeal to when the British government rules that all disabled people will be impaled on stakes outside town halls. Etc. And immigration? Politicians and their friends the newspapers love playing the race card.

I'm sure there will be equally stupid reasons among the Remain voters too, it is just a little harder for me to see that one.

Now.... doesn't all this have to be ratified by the pope before UK can go ahead, anyway? And if it isn't,will they set up their own church?

Oh wait, I guess that was five hundred years ago.

There's more where he came from and I think they just replace him. This isn't a government-resigns thing.

And the labour-flavour righties are taking the excuse to try to give Corbyn the push just because they detest the idea of Labour having an actual leftie leader for once.

For me it would be less alarming if it was a 30/70 vote, rather than 52/48. Because the vote has illuminated some alarming issues regarding UK.

@Thad E Ginathom Today is the first day in my life I wish I were still a trader. Some lucky few will make fortunes in the coming days. And many office supplies and computers will be broken in rage. Ahh, fond memories of the worst days of my life.

This makes sense. Globalization does nothing to help to the lower class.

I am an outsider, but from what I have seen I have confidence in the British people. I actually feel Brits will come out of this further ahead in the long term. Note that I conveniently left out Scots.

Seriously, it's not going to be all that much different. Too many industries intertwined. Too many existing treaties and agreements outside of EU. Paris may wish to be the financial capital like London, but it will never happen. There are other reasons why London is what it is. The exchange rate stuff is but temporary. The pound is strong for reasons other than EU membership. It will come back in a little while when cooler heads prevail.

This was purely a democratic election. Each person getting a voice. The US system doesn't even allow that. So be happy.

Basically it's like Vulcan voting that they don't want to be a part of the Federation because of excess human influence. The fact is, Vulcan is still very much tied to the Federation. Vulcans will still be allowed to travel throughout the Federation, but maybe with slightly more hassle (they need to fill out a form). There will still be Vulcan science officers on starships. Vulcans will still export sensors and shield systems to the Federation. Vulcan will still stand with the Federation against the Borg, Kardashians, and other threats. The only thing that may change is that Vulcans will allow less humans to immigrate into Vulcan. But this was never a problem to begin with, so I guess that is why Vulcan stayed in the Federation.

There is something special (for better and for worse, with the good and the bad) about UK institutions. England figured out how to make democratic and semi-democratic institutions work before most of continental Europe. The English institutions laid the foundation for thriving nations such as Australia and Canada, and the most powerful nation on the planet, the USA.

I've recently visited Australia, partially grew up in Canada, and now reside in the USA. There is a shared DNA in all of these nations. I don't think the sovereignty issue is a joke. Sometimes wanting to uphold the very principles, institutions, and traditions that made a nation and its child nations great is more important than immediate economic benefits.

This is just my outsider point of view.

That young man in the picture I posted above. His conduct is not that of an Englishman. When I visit London, I would like to see more Englishmen. I get a kick that "please" and "thank you" are very much part of the vocabulary. It's not what I am used to, but it is nice. Idiot euro-trash lying down in the middle of the street, England could have much less of that. As I said, an Englishman on the plane apologized to me for having to witness that.
