I think it'll end up a mistake, but a new opportunity none the less.

Dear America, please let this be a lesson to all of you about how complacency plays into the hands of crazy people, remember this come election time.

Don't let this turn too political or this thread will be deleted. Random thoughts are fine -as long as there are no arguments or back and forth debates about politics.

It's interesting seeing how the opinions of this predominantly NA forum generally differ to those in the EU or Australia (my home). I'm not attacking anyone at all (although I'm personally not for the change) but i wonder how differently this issue has been portrayed societally and in the media across the world.

It's a huge win for Russia.

UKIP, among other right-wing parties in EU receive huge donations from.... guess what, Russia.

It seems ROI of those donations is very valuable for Putin and his friends. While I don't like him for reasons like Human Rights and oppressive regime, I must admit that he is probably the most capable politician/strategist I've ever seen.

I'd rather see this as "Beginning of the End" rather than "New Beginning" is that UK is already heavily depended on EU funds for many of its poor areas, such as Cornwall.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cornwall-36616955

So, who's going to pay for these poor towns when EU is out? The answer is no one. This will only accelerate wealth inequality in UK, resulting in even more instability than now.

For US... this is never good for us. We just lost a huge influence in EU with Brexit.

Just merge it with the z bitching thread.

Anyway, Brit here, and I'm horrified but not surprised. My fellow brits will even elect Tory governments, so what can you expect?

This is decision making by readers of the tabloid press. Whilst I can't see a better system available, the downside of democracy is that it depends on the education of the people, and, in most cases, the education of the people is not great, so, on a bad day (very much like today), it could called rule by the ignorant,

Not only am I a Brit, but I am a Brit living elsewhere. There, not that I have many, goes the value of my pound.

    Idiots.

You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time... Abe Lincoln

Congratulations to the Brits for not being fooled!

Most of them probably think they have voted for the right to have curved bananas and square tomatoes, or whatever the current look-what-stupid-EU-regulations-are-forcing-on-us-now myth is.

Possibly a few actually thought they were voting to not have any other court in the world that can stop a UK government infinging on human rights and stuff.

It's the weirdos / euro-trash that I saw doing lame stunts like lying down in the middle of the street in a London street and getting into altercations with police that are probably pissing off 51% of Englishmen (and 60% of Britons). At least that's my NA perspective from being in London twice in the past eight months. I'll post some photos in a bit.

I understand the sentiment of the vote. I expected London to have a certain Englishness based on the late 80s and 90s. It's very different now, unrecognizable. A Englishman apologized to me on behalf of the UK for the riff-raff. He also suggested the Royal Family was useless and should be hung - in a joking way.

    Wow.

Would have not guessed this was going to happen. I'm also not sure how leaving the EU helps or hinders the UK. Europe seems to me heavily divided. Has been, and seems it will continue to be.
