Should not be an issue with something like the miniDSP. They allow for signal delays to time align the drivers. Since your system is modular, you can adjust the tweeter position to compensate for any difference in timing.
I'm not there yet, but in the planning/dreaming stages. I figure Gungnir Multibit for lows and ModiMB for highs would be a pretty good compromise, and if I skip Dirac then the nanaDIGI 2x8 HD for $170 would work.
I would do the DACs the other way, or at least where the midrange is dominant. I assume the Fostex driver is where all the voicing is taking place and I would want all my best gear in that position.
Just for theory's sake, what about something like a Dangerous Convert-8 doing Hi-Mid-Low-Sub for left and right, using all 8 channels? One single internal clock, fully synchronized.
Yeah, that seems like an ideal solution. I was thinking the greater DSP horsepower of the Gungnir Multibit must imply more taps or whatever and therefore longer latency. But yeah, using something like Convert-8 would address that issue for sure.
@Cspirou Whelp, I did it. Modi Multibit and MiniDSP nanoDIGI2x8 & OpenDRC-DI on the way to push crossover, time alignment, and DRC all pre-DAC in the signal chain.
