Hmm, hot sauce, I'll have to try. Sounds interesting. I've got some very very hot hot sauce. Also very hot ramen. I guess I know what I'm doing when I get back to college and am stuck in quarantine.
Remember, there is a very small chance that I could be laid off. Very unlikely thou since I'm a high priority employee job function wise. Who knows....
Glad you survived for now. I went through like 8 rounds of layoffs (no exaggeration) at my company as it merged with others multiple times and restructured. Still managed to survive! Know your shit and work hard, you’ll last.
Last spring, I was a postdoc at a university and was teaching high school simultaneously. The latter was a hedge against the end of my postdoc and the larger imminent collapse of academia, which was obvious even pre-COVID.
Up until February, it looked like I'd have the choice of a permanent gig at the university or a permanent gig at the high school. Thanks to COVID, I was informed in March/April that I could count on neither continuing. But before the school year even ended I landed a much better gig for the fall teaching mostly college-level classes at a tech high school that specializes in audio production and video game design.
It's a great fit, and for the first time in my adult life, I have some stability. My parents, who are retired, are moving down near my wife and me as soon as they're vaccinated. I also have more time for my side gig writing about music and audio. Long story short, sometimes things have a way of working out. I hope the same is true for you.
