Boring Back Office Banker dude, woo.
My Preference is Warmish/Darkish Neutralish, if that even make sense (answer is no). I try to get to that goal by doing a Warm/Dark DAC with a more Neutralish Amp. Headphones will also do its thing on SQ if I like it or not.
Computer Desktop Setup:
Note: This is for casual listening while on the computer, and when I Work From Home (WFH). So listening to random songs, 12 inch collections and also not really focusing on the album. Darker DAC being fed into a mostly neutralish amp.
Thinkpad X260 via Roon or Foobar2000 via UPnP Output Component or BubbleUPnP > PI2AES [Toslink Output] > Massdrop x Airist R-2R DAC (RDAC) > Zampotech SW51+
Due to Audio Dropout Issue for some reason when feeding the RDAC Coax, I'm using Toslink. Yeah....
Main Setup:
Note: This is for serious album listening and being analytical on certain songs to compare mastering or understand song structure. Sometimes to chill as well. With both the Computer Desktop Setup and the Main Setup I have two separate amps for two semi-different sound flavors/methods. Still good stuff, for me. Unlike the RDAC, I found Bifrost 2 to be on the warmish side with PI2AES but not gooie warm like Unison USB > Bifrost 2. DNA Starlett is mostly a neutralish amp to me, but it still has some signs of warmth and classic tube sound character that is not overdone.
Roon or UPnP > PI2AES [Coax Output] or Pioneer DV-79AVi DVD Player (CD Transport) [Toslink Output] > Schiit Bifrost 2 > DNA Starlett
Headphones and IEMs: Senn HD600, Senn HD6XX, NuForce x Drop Move, Drop x JVC HA-FDX1, Sony WF-1000XM3, Sony IER-M9, Moondrop Starfield, Gaudio Nair,
Focal Elear + Clear Pads = Eclair/"Elex," HifiMan HE400S
Portable Setups:
Sony WM1A > Various IEMs
Phone > Shanling UP4 > Various IEMs
Phone > Sony WF-1000XM3 mostly with sometimes NuForce x Drop MoveInteract
