Curious, with a transformer like this, do you have to do any refurbishment to get it working as well as you want?

Specifically, do transformers like this ever require you to vacuum impregnate them with a resin/ similar to prevent humming?

No, I've had dozens of pre-war transformers I have taken from old radios and sound equipment, they all work as well as they did when new.

Just curious - you mentioned you don't have big boy amps anymore but keep posting all these hhnnnnggggg level tubes - are you about to embark on a long DIY journey?

Yes, I have 4 amplifier projects underway, 2 of which I am building myself from scratch. These tubes are all for those projects. I don't have any headphone amplifiers anymore, only loudspeaker ones.

This is the original RCA 2A3 from 1933 without support rods.

It's a Telefunken RES964 from 1933, output pentode. By the late 30s they had switched to a standard ST shape reminiscent of the 2A3: https://i.imgur.com/5QWOmai.jpg

Actually it's a Telefunken 512WL from 1935! The 1941 is a service stamp, I guess the output tube was changed at that time, as it was otherwise original. I 'renovated' it by removing the RF section and simplifying the AF section as much as possible. It sounds wonderful now.

Not that this is about giving up, but I favour patches. Gum gives a hit, patches just keep the nicotine level below hit but above craving. But what counts is Making The Decision. The rest is just stuff that may or may not make it less painful.

Never really knew anything about her except 'famous for pop and pretty' until now. It seems intolerable that someone who is patently able to run their lives, including being a part of a multi-million-$ business, to be subject to the situation she is in. Such a thing should, at least, be independently and regularly reviewed.

Serious mental health problems do, of course, call for serious attention, treatment, and even protection. Equally a shame that the ordinary folk on the street who /need/ it may never get it.

Helm Bolt Dongle- I learn something every day. K4rstar, what would be on your short list for good usb (no add on to fix) dac under $500 new or used. May be downsizing my Prism.

not sure, my main DAC is SPDIF only so I use a converter for USB. I don't really think the desktop sized stuff is going to be better than the helm bolt other than I/O really. maybe keep an eye on reviews for the new geshelli DAC.
