@rlow thanks for the tonal comparison; my favorite aspect of the Gumby A2 is the timbre density and weight... Helps put my itch for the Yaggy A2 to rest.

Thanks for this (I think?) I was under the impression that the new G-A2 was leaner, less bass overall. I wasn't sure if I wanted to upgrade...now I know I HAVE to hear it for myself. Glad you're enjoying it!

Random thought: What if when we croak, and all the universe's secrets are revealed, we find out that all DACs sound the same?

What if when we die God is just chilling in an eames chair listening to some tunes with a fat DCS stack beside him and he just looks at us with a *nod* and says "....right you were boyos"

Yggy A2 arrives tomorrow. Minimum amount of time I should leave on before comparing to Gumby1 and Gumby2? A week?

so you are the lucky fellow that snagged it! People say 3 weeks, but i would say 1 week. I'm stuck at 175 out of 188 for A2 upgrade. fuuuuu....

Just turn the Gumby off and leave in the garden for an hour to cool, then it's fair

I just joined myself and I know people don’t like it “cold” but even at hour two I thought it was the best DAC I’ve ever heard.

Hell, GumBy really is rough when it hasn't been powered on long enough. ~24 hrs powered on and still sounds like an old hag just woken up.

Has Schiit ever explained why this is? I've never heard of this issue with other DAC brands.

Pavane and Yggy 'A' are both grotty in the first few hours. I heard a Soekris board that was cold and didn't like that much either.

My Yggy A was like this too. I remember my wife and I were watching the Friends series on Netflix at the time, and after we swapped in the Yggy vs. the Oppo BDP-105 DAC we were using previously it was crazy how voices sounded. Distortion and clipping, almost like the microphone gain was up too high or something. Smoothed out a bit by the time we watched an episode the next evening.

Also went Mimby -> Gumby; the difference was immediately apparent. Modi bought new at end of Feb, wonder if its one of the new ones. :O

Interesting article. They really can find stats to show anything these days. The biggest question I have is this:

Why the hell is this being covered on Wired.com!? ;-)

Can confirm. Was just at IKEA and a good 60-70% of the women in the 20s-30s age range looked like they were ready to drop.

Dynaudio Special Fortys in the house (red ones!!) Still burning in, but initial impressions indicate they may dethrone king ATC (SCM19 v2).

Yeah the Contour 20s do look pretty amazeballs, but too pricey for me right now. Got a wicked deal on the Fortys, which is the only way I was getting those at this point in my bank account.

Picked up a Cambridge Audio 851w power amp on a good deal. Plan to compare to Vidar. It's CAs "flagship" & supposedly their pinnacle to date

Good luck, all the CA stuff I ever had has broken down just out of warranty, except for one tuner. I avoid them like bum disease now.

I sure hope not, it was a good used deal (considering it's a $3K CAD retail amp), but it still wasn't chump change.
