I was thinking of you, admiringly, only this morning. Gotta say I think it's pretty ballsy to visit China. Yes, I have a cousin who's been going there every month for business for years and years, but he's the tough guy sort. But I confess that tyrannies scare me. I am *not* trying to scare you. I hope you both have the best time.

I’ve been to Shenzhen on a business trip a few years ago. Sadly, I’ve got nothing to recommend as I didn’t see much more than the hotel and the plant I worked at. But, boy, what a huge city! For me as a European, that alone was really out of the ordinary.

I know the basics of what I need, but the system is going to cost about 10x what I build for myself, so I want someone else to be able to provide warranty and service. The quadro line is just RTX now, but with A-nomenclature like A5000, A6000.

I work for Dell (but not in PCs). Despite what some folks say, we support our enterprise customers very well. You can configure a Precision tower with 56 fast cores and triple A6000s, and get a same-day onsite service plan. The pro machines do not suck.

TY. We used Dell for our regular production laptops and desktops and love them. However, as far as I can tell, AMD Threadripper is the way to go for rendering complex scenes and Dell doesn't have workstations with AMD CPUs as options. Still digging around, as our renderer, as talented as he is, doesn't really have a great grasp on the under-the-hood stuff for tech.

Just got the 2022 ATV4K in and set it up. So far, with both 4K Dolby Vision and 4K HDR Disney+ is playing at 60fps (Moana and recent Thor as tests). Doesn't matter if I turn on match framerate or not. I even manually set to 4K 24fps globally and somehow Disney+ is at 60fps. There might be some permutation that works, but not hopeful if it didn't work out of the box.

Same issue with Amazon Firestick 4k Max. Everything on paper that I wanted (at a 5th of price of ATV4K), but no go on Disney+. Probably entirely Disney's fault, but frustrating nonetheless. Since I still need a streamer, and the ATV4K seems to do everything else fine, might just keep it and hope the developers come through. Also need a Kodi replacement for NAS stuff.

There is something called testdisk. As I understand it, it finds inconsistencies and fixes them. But all I really know is that it has made some external drives work for me. Maybe CHKDSK would have: but I don't have a windows machine.

Another thought is... If you can boot from a Linux-distro thumbdrive, you can at least take a look around. If visible, perhaps copy some important stuff off the SSD.
The vital thing is to do nothing that *writes* to the damaged disk/partition. Unless or until you know what you are doing, or one of the tools @Kernel Kurtz recommends is fixing stuff for you.

From general comments I’ve seen it seems like now is the time to buy 3000 series if you are going for that. Nvidia had halted production on whatever 3xxx card they can to so they don’t have excess when 4xxx comes out.

In terms of price and availability it won’t get much better than now for new cards

I won't buy used for something like this. Originally wanted to "splurge" on a 3070, but prices and availability killed that. Now that I see its performance on games I want to play with the eye candy on, I think 3080 perf is min. Given likely availability, prob looking at a year or more before the equiv 4000 is realistic. Hence debate. 1070 still works, just not amazeballs.
