Oh! Wait! Serious thought! Why haven't extreme audiophiles thought of *clockwork turntables* in the present day? I mean serious clockwork like expensive watches. Practical? Or does the oscilating escapement tick tock rule it out?

Beautiful. I used to live in 1970s, and remember this stuff well. I admired it greatly in aesthetic terms, although I had no idea fo the sound.

I recently drove through one of the 4 "dark places" in the lower 48 amateur astronomers often travel to, the Gila national forest area. Truly the middle of nowhere, and beautiful, especially at the higher altitudes.

Same thought as Bob - CGI can be created by computer tech people who do not have a pinch of creativity in them.

I think it’s less the quality and more how it influences production. Actors in front of a green screen just don’t engage with their environment the same way.

There’s also a tendency to go too over the top just because they can and it kills the suspension of disbelief.

Good CGI is unnoticeable nowadays, and CGI is everywhere nowadays. Definitely a situation where if you give studios the time they can put out good work but too common studios are crunching at the eleventh hour to make sure the product comes to market thus leading to bad CGI that is obvious.

Stock tubes are often judged unfairly. It's easy to look down from on high when the desirables are within reach. But how many people judged something good as bad when its only crime was not being perfect? Seriously. Most of my amps run stock tubes and I'm perfectly happy with them. Contentment > nervosa!

Also after you do your listening tests and notes, flip the stack and repeat because the top dac will run warmer and that might affect the sound.

I questioned it because just before your status update I read an article about how there's also a lot of medical fraud now with fake billing. Some are much more believe-able now when they're able to (illegally) access data en masse due to records, bills, etc being digital now.

All good, mate. It sounded completely sketch to me as well until I went through the detail billing. That's part of my exasperation with the whole thing... felt like medical billing crossed over to overnight infomercials.

one thing I've read/heard w/ regards to ticks and pops on vinyl that seems to make sense to my lizard brain is that they're more a detriment on systems that lack dynamic ability somewhere in the chain. Thought being a tick or pop is much more noticeable when a gain stage goes into clipping or otherwise has bad transient response overshoot.

I don't think so, although I'm far from sure. I used to record bad albums to cassette. The *lesser* dr of tape took a little of the pain away. Although the greater benefit was not having to think of the stylus!
