@SoupRKnowva I auditioned it via my friend's Stax SR-009 + SRM-T8000 stack. I felt it lacked a bit 'emotion' if that makes sense. Also, compared to any previous sources my friend has had, I think Dave's tonality was a tad on the cold side.

But I did enjoy the technicalities, like clean&hard hitting transients and the overall purity of the presentation. My friend is willing to let me demo the Dave at my home, so I can do a comparison against my Rockna WVDRM Signature.

It’s so interesting to see how other people react to gear. Specially in this case where you own the wavedream sig like I did and are comparing with the Dave. Emotional connection with the music was something that I thought the Dave excelled at

The OG versions could be had for 1500€. Dunno if the newer ones are worth 1000€ extra. Problem is I cannot listen to them before purchasing. Looking to replace my ATC SCM 19's - I find them too etching sounding in the long run.

I have an Oppo 105 and 205. Is it the final word in musical fidelity? No, but it's really not bad. Like @Merrick said, it's total overkill if you have no intention of using the video features. For strictly audio, your friend would get better value elsewhere.

I got to listen to it today and it wasn't utter garbage... but woolly bass, flat microdynamically and some sabre glare. I wouldn't probably personally like it in the long run. And I don't think it's a good match for my friends Stax setup (SR-009 + SRM-T8000).

@rlow I had Raal HSA-1b, Rotel RA-1520 and Simaudio Moon 250i for amplifiers. HSA-1b was the best and Rotel the worst in terms of graininess, but it was certainly present with all of them. DAC was Soekris 2541 and source Qobuz via Bluesound Node 2i.

I am now listening to a pair of ATC SCM 19 v2's and In terms of smoothness I'd put the three speakers in the following order:
        S400 (OG) > SCM19v2 >> S400mk2

I have heard the A-S2200 at a local shop, albeit briefly and not with recordings I am super familiar with, but seemed like a killer amp. Things seemed to have a lot of life and immediacy. Previously the owners had had a Hegel H190 in the same setup, and I would say I found myself more impressed when I stepped back into the listening room and heard the Yamaha playing.

SPL meter shows 82dB with A-weighting at arm's height. Probably not enough for hearing damage - but will cause brain damage in the long run for sure.

Technicalities are okay, compared against Soekris dac2541: ARC DAC8 has better macrodynamics, worse microdynamics and slightly greyer background. I'd say detail retrival and imaging are better, but dac2541 wins easily on timbre and involvement.

It could be as easy as moving some cables inside back to their intended position or reterminating them --> cheap and easy fix. To the sour end where an IC might be damaged and is obsolete or otherwise next to impossible to replace.
It does smell like a bad cabling issue, or some capacitor might have gone.
