The Composer's treble feels much more even than K812's, even if it subjectively still is a bright headphone. It's just tilted up, in an evenly manner. Composer's midrange is a tad recessed, but other than that, it sounds pretty neutral to my ears. Other improvement is bass, which I feel is less spongy and more taut. Sub-bass seems also more prominent.
+ Not detecting any sharp resonances, so in that sense The Composer is a smooth and balanced sounding headphone
+ Headstage is quite large
+ Dynamics are good
+ Timbre, none of that plasticity that Hifiman's do have for example
+/- Plankton, The Composer is not a plankton monster. It sounds smooth from the top to the bottom. But somehow I don't see this much of a negative side (but you might) - maybe the bright treble compensates in terms of detail retrieval?
- Overall balance is a bit bright, but not necessary offensively so, especially if taken care with partnering equipment
- Not the most vibrant midrange
If you absolutely hate the AKG K812, Austrian Audio The Composer might not be for you. But personally I am not able to go back to the Sennheiser HD800S' anymore. I like how resonance free and dynamic the Composers sound. HD800S hits like a wet noodle compared to that.
