The big fat ugly caveat is that 1 in 1000 enthusiast has the skillset to build analogue filter in front of the amp - and there is no universality. Schiit would have to build the speaker as well.

I’m glad to see the A1/GS having a moment again. I’ve enjoyed mine for over seven years. It remains one of the best DACs around. At this price, it’s an absolute steal.

Truly insane that for $1699 + $699 you can have a TOTL DAC and amp. Get some modestly priced speakers and be done forever. My 2008 self is jealous.

I've slightly skimming in/out of the Yggdrasil thread since it has never been on my radar. This new unit pulls on the want rope. Will these be limited run, or will the new run of chips keep things going for a little. Always afraid of the day the SFD decides to skip town.

@RestoredSparda I definitely have a Bifrost USB 2.0 and maybe an Uber Analog board too clanging around in a drawer somewhere, also.

@M3NTAL They’re on a wait and see approach so far, but if it seems to be doing well in the initial run, MIB could be a permanent fixture, yeah.

@YMO I didn’t find Jot 2 or Lyr (3 at least) aggressive either. In fact most seem to agree Lyr is somewhat laid back. However If you tried the Lyr with a JJ tube, there is some harshness/hardness with that tube that I couldn’t deal with either. But vintage Raytheon tubes work great and gets me closest to the bloom from Vali 2 (never heard Vali 2+) with the improved clarity, refinement and other improvements.

@rlow... thanks for the info, but virtual dislike on the answer. I'm holding out for the Yggdrasil MIL-F and want to spread out the cost... so hoping the MIL-F is soon and the MJ3 lasts another month or so

I'd say you have already helped make audio interesting with very flexible topology components, the latest being Mjolnir 3. Yeah, this one has my attention and will serve as a great tool for the new measurements I've presented and others still in experimental state. Oh, and it sounds fabulous enough to capture my ears too.

@M3NTAL - same here. I keep looking around for anything and everything I can sell to come up with close to enough cash. MJ3 just ticks so many boxes for me.

I wish there were a version of this without the cd transport, just a Unison DDC Eitr 2 thingy.

I could have used the CD transport without the DDC, but I'll just consider it future-proofing. Now I have to decide whether to send my Gungnir back for the Unison upgrade or just continue to use SPDIF.

I would like a smaller unit, no cd tray. I think 2 usb inputs is a real nice to have, but If I had to I could live with 1. also as much as power supply of the original as possible.

In the light of Urd and Mjolnir 3, maybe comparatively. But it's very nice to have a desktop one-box multibit DAC option again!

I did not think Jot 1 was ever to be upgradeable, I have one with an original Multibit card sitting unused in a box here. Nice to see you doing things to keep older stuff current.
