I'm addicted to the imaging quality and rawness of the A1. I'm afraid that going to the A2 or even LIM would "smooth" it over too much. I'm good with EQing the upper mids on A1 down a bit and building around it. It gets the hard part right, that I'd rather not compromise it.

@GoldfishX I feel that the A2 offers more slam than the A1. The A2 is like a tweaked A1. I wouldn’t call it smooth, but I would prob stick with the A1 if I had to pick only one.

I go back and forth. A1 is the pool, A2 is the jacuzzi. Incisive immediacy versus chocolate earthiness.

I’m fairly intolerant to noise (as in, I get really close to my speakers when I test gear — I get to 70% output of the 100W amp I use just to hear the noise floor of the phono with no input). That’s effing quiet. And I don’t hear channel imbalance or uneven noise. Magic unit? Is it the black paint? :)

I recently found out that if my ears had a certain amount of wax in them, then high frequencies would be very fatiguing, almost similar to tinnitus ringing. First and foremost, I would clean your ears or have an audiologist clean them for you.

Unsurprisingly, it comes down to synergy and taste. So nothing revelatory to say in a status update.

However, this may be the best implementation of the ESS stuff I've heard. The shrill and harsh highs I thought were emblematic of these chips are simply not here (yes, @purr1n had already told me not all ESS implementations sound the same, now I have experience).

Clickbait! The guy is more on the Bumbershoot crowd anyway, and it shows.

Ask anyone who attended either night. We got exactly what we paid for: loud, fun, stadium metal.

Very few reporters covering metal as it should. Whatever happened to the good ol’ shit from Kerrang?

I've been rather sick, so all I can do is listen. This test was good. GS2 is really good. Indeed it is an airier Gungnir A2 with better separation. Better than OG/A2? No. Flavors indeed.

MHA200 extracts all the juice, so I don't feel like I'm leaving Yggdrasil coins on the table anymore. Used HD800S for testing.

I still have its old big brother CXN-v2 on a secondary setup. Still a solid piece of kit - my single complaint is it doesn’t do Apple Music natively (but AirPlay is good enough there).

Oh yeah! CXNv2 is really good - and the Wolkfram DACs are not bad at all. The AXN10’s ESS are a tiny bit brighter, but heck, I just needed a reliable transport under $500. Feed the Yggdrasil’s coax and move on.

Haven’t tried the CXN100. I hope the built-in dac implementation is cool! Hard to beat that, a CXC, and an amp for a better-than-most easy to set up system.

Moved MJ3 to the Yggdrasil rig, not bad at all. But I still think MHA200 gets all out of Yggdrasil and everything else leaves a little bit out. Oh well. It’s good to play with toys and enjoy tunes.
