Shitty HD6XX bass getting more irritating too.. the Elex making that quite obvious.

@Phantaminum You ever heard Elex with Liquid Platinum? I listened to that pair once and like it a lot. Just wondering how you would compare LP to SW51 with Elex.

I owned the LP and the Elex at different times. Never had the chance to pair them together. About the only thing I can say that the LP would do better is bass will probably hit harder and enough power for planars. I’d still prefer the SW51 over the LP.

Enjoying Jazz with the Elex and +SW51. This combination even makes the YouTube Jazz Compilation Vol# videos sound nice.

I run the Amperex Holland tubes. I've not heard the Elex myself so I can't comment too much about their relative difference, but I thought the synergy was much better with the Focals than the Senns, but I needed a slightly less distracting setup since I use it at work.

Mullards are nice.. But I felt they were a little too closed in with both the Elex & HD650. Amperex have a slight U shape presentation and less dynamic than the stock tube, but all in all, a damn fine match with Elex (Amperex had great imaging, though). Stock tube, to me, is still my daily driver. Should have a pair of Tungsram in soon. Have always really enjoyed those tubes in good amps.

It'd be nice if Qobuz had a bigger library. Sounds great. Going back to Spotify, Foobar, and buying CD quality albums.

I am not a fan of their interface. Can't I browse through just an artist's actual album collection without seeing every single song and every single reissue or greatest hits album?

MrSpeakers Aeon Flow 2 Open. It still has the same timbre and tonality I remember. Has a more open sound.

I think the Closed model might have the most promise of the two, based on an early listen I had with it. Haven't yet heard the production version, though.

You may be right. From how other reviewers are describing the closed version, it seems they've taken a step in the right direction. The AC was too thin/dry sounding for my tastes but that was on a Lyr 3. Now it looks like it has more body and evens out the rest of the FR.

I do find A2O fun and it gets my toes tapping. Regardless of some of its fault. This thing really does a great job in instrument separation. It doesn't resolve every detail but all instruments has it's own solid space.

To expand a little more instead of a general “better”; it doesn’t have the rough spots that I hear in Spotify and Tidal. Most of my tracks saved there just have this glare while Qobuz sounds clean and smooth.

Have you tried comparing them on Roon? It's been a while since I used it, but it seems like Tidal's software might be holding it back.

The sad thing is I really wanted to listen to these as I like the AFO. I just never had a business not return an email when being asked for refund. I’ll probably call today and ask them to cancel the order and if I don’t receive confirmation by the end of day, i’ll start the CC chargeback.

I was using my UE with a BT cable for wireless iems. Dropped it on hardwood and had to send it in for repair. I have dropped the Senns quite a lot last few months and still going strong.

Tempted to snag a pair of the Sony just to try them myself.

Need to recalibrate my chain. Possibly a brighter DAC to help with the warmer tube amp sound. Any recommendations? Gungnir Multibit A2?
      1. purr1n
        purr1n
That might be ideal. Good heft on sub/low bass to help with usually some extension issues with tubes. Mainly great because it's a cool sounding DAC that does well with gear (not just DACs) with mid-bass emphasis to lower mid warmth.

Thanks for the confirmation Marv. I may need to pour through the Gungnir Multibit thread more to verify if the A2 still has the same issue with the SE out performance as the A1. Both amps are SE. I have the Bifrost 2 and even though it sounds better than the A1, I feel there’s more to be had with better system synergy.
