My boss recently told me that she got a new position. She didn't want to do software development and instead do Azure DevOps Management ala scrum master. I knew she was a bit wary of me leaving because that meant she wasn't able to pivot to what she wanted.
She's in good with the CTO. So I talked about moving over but I had a feeling after our 1 on 1 convo, that she didn't want that as it could mean she would have to go back to what she was doing. Which mind you, I mentioned that I'd still be doing what I've been doing just under a different team and when the new manager got hired I'd train him and the other software developer in my old role.
Whether it took a few months or half a year. They didn't even say, "Sure, we can do that but it's going to take a while to fully transfer over" it was, "No, we don't think this is what we want right now. We have new managers coming in and we can put a pin in it until they get acclimated then we can make the decision"....
Too bad to hear situations you're facing sound uncontrollable yet risky.. I had to deal with leaving boss and myself moving to a new dept/team. What you said reminds me of the hard days last year. Hope everything around you resolve asap.
