Did the HD600 get beat? Must admit I'm a bit of a germaphobe and all my old Sennheisers still gross me out even though I have cleaned them to all infinity. Allure of a brand new smelling hd600 is strong.
Mine is an Irish 2023, focus more on pads than build location i reckon. Unfortunately the old flat pads i have don't work for me, i get a channel imbalance due to fit/seal. Should get some ZMF perf suede pads next week which i will try on both HD600 and HD650 kiss.
My brother got some pads from Aliexpress that actually sound quite balanced on the very old HD600.
With respect to build location, I caught some noticeable aesthetic and sonic differences between HD600s pre and post move using the same pads and grilles, but I guess I'm nitpicking. Yeah, seems like ZMF is the way to go for "good but still not stock" sound now.
I have no frame of reference for build locations. a 2015 ish HD650 and two HD600's with 20 years between them, both Irish or maybe the old one is German but i can't be sure.
I still remember the first time I heard HD-650. It wasn't for me. But I immediately thought; "Dad would love this!" Although HD-650 isn't to my taste, I have no difficulty whatsoever understanding why others would prefer it. We should consider ourselves blessed that Sennheiser made both. So, @rlow, enjoy it!
I enjoy both very much. Prefer the 600 for rock/alternative/metal and electronic, but the 650 for folk, jazz and acoustic/live stuff. And I prefer my Aeolus over the 600 for most things due to more sub bass kick. Wanted to reduce the stable to possibly try some new things, so the 600 had to go (along with Elex).
@Lyander that was the first pair of 600 I’ve ever tried. Was curious and they came on a big sale so I snatched them up. Really enjoyed them. Would love to hear an older pair to see if they’re better.
I sold HD600 once and regretted it. Elex is a weird headphone, had it on the chopping block until I plugged it into a sonett2. Not going anywhere that amp turns Elex into super duper HD600 but even better.
