I think they were great years ago but flawed. Now they're a guaranteed to break along the headband oddity from a while back (I've had two pairs where the headband cracked in the same place). I'd avoid.
I have a pair at home and at work and I'd have to concur with @zerodeefex that they're not as good a proposition as they once seemed. However, I don't know of a comparable closed headphone for a decent price. ATH-M50X perhaps, but I'd only really use that with Sonarworks. For the $175 price, I think it's fair. I haven't had headbands crack but I know others did.
@DigMe Sorry for the late response, was out all day buying home renovation crud, haha! Got some cool junk too though, so fun. Anyway, no worries, it's something I've resigned myself to :P
And thanks, @zerodeefex and @Azteca! Didn't think the headband issue was quite that bad, so bother. As for the ATs, got to try them but they weren't quite my thing. Ah well, search goes on, haha.
Hang in there. I am also disappointed by the lack of truly good closed headphones in general, and in the <$500 segment especially! I'm glad there are more efforts being made by manufacturer's to make them.
